If model yachts are your thing and you have even the slightest interest in Arduino then this is a great resource

Hi, I would like to build an autonomous, gps controlled craft as part of a project using an Arduino uno .
Can you tell me what hardware I would need pls, I'm thinking of, monitor, keyboard etc.
Thank you.
There seems to lots of information in this section, just where to begin!

Hi Nordlys,
An exciting project....
So I pitch this right - Before posting suggestions where are you on your Arduino journey? - Have you been using one for a while and confident with the programming side?

Ok. This is the situation, my grandson wants to take up this project whilst still at school, 6th form. :P
I'd like to get up to speed a bit such as I might be able to help.
We are both absolute beginners. I think he has an Arduino board but neither of us know about programming.
I know about boats.
He's pretty good with computers.
We are starting out on the journey!

Hi Nordlys,
I admire you wanting to help the grandson with this project.
I would say it's a very ambitious project as an absolute beginner but I love biting off more than I can chew and then working hard on the minutiae to make it work.
I'll give it some thought and post you some info that might help. - A quick response re hardware - if you are using a computer with a USB port then that should be sufficient - no special computer hardware required.
To wet your appetite check out this site and start at lesson one - it will give you a good overview/introdution and start you on your journey

Is the boat you are going to use powered or sail?

Thanks for your reply today.
This is a lengthy ongoing A level science/ technology project that he is beginning very soon (at his school in Sharjah, Dubai).
As soon as they get back from their lock down.
I agree, it is ambitious and that worries me a little, it's always so ambitious!
However he has time.
I think it will be powered.
I'll begin my learning with the link you sent. Thank you.

Hi,
This is a robot yacht designed to roam the deep seas.
It had a software problem and the people who owned it asked if someone could go out and retrieve it.
