As the Coronavirus is such a serious topic, and probably over the coming months may have devastating effects in many people lives, we have decided that it is a topic that is best not discussed, or argued here on Modelboatmayhem.

That'll do me. A hobby forum should be a place of refuge.

-
Yes I agree with both Martin and Dave I come here to make think and talk model boats lets keep the forum as that,
lots of places to talk about the virus if you want to and lots bad fake news so lets not have it here please lads
Regards Howard
-
Afraid I disagree, it affects us all so much we all feel it. It should be allowed to be discussed within reason.
-
Sorry, not on Mayhem, we all know how it will go.... :police:
Lots of discussions on Facebook etc.....
-
It might be worthwhile having a moderated thread for people looking for support or even just someone to talk to.... (Skype, messenger, etc)
-
Sure he has enough to contend with on Mayhem and face book, let alone another thread, or media platform to control which would get out of hand as they always do.
-
Hello Gents,
At the end of the day It's Martins Site so if he's NO he means NO we are all adults so let's help Martin he's a great guy that brings us great enjoy meant with Mayhem so lets keep a place we can come and chat boats and help others without getting Depressed about this awful virus I understand members are worried and want info but there's a of other sites with better information then this one so lets leave it to the NHS and the TV NEWS to keep us informed and updated. I hope no one thinks and being rude posting this.
Regards Howard.
-
HI all we are at this moment in information overload reference the above. I hope to get some building done over the next 12 weeks so lets use Mayhem for our hobby and not another media outlet. Were ever possible let us support members who may need someone to chat to.
Stan. :(( :(( :(( :(( :(( :(( :(( :(( things will get better then we should be able to enjoy our hobby once again. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

If, like me, you are feeling anxious/unsettled then the advice on this website is very helpful https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/coronavirus-and-your-wellbeing/ (https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/coronavirus-and-your-wellbeing/)
If anyone needs to chat then there's a private messaging system here on Mayhem. Meanwhile I've just been outside in the sunshine and given the grass its first cut of the season. It's made me feel a whole lot better.
Look after yourselves and stay safe.

:-)) Agree 100% Martin , if you must , go and read newspaper/TV reports , they'll give you the DEATH TOLL hour by hour (funny how they don't mention folk who've recovered)
Bill

Well said gentlemen! :-)
We have our own little 'community' we've built here on Mayhem.
We have got to know a bit about each other, even in a small way, so lets build on that.... and continue to encourage one another and 'be there' for each other too.
We all in this for the short and long-haul together.
-
Well said :-))
There is enough depressing stuff to read and live through at the moment- I don’t want to read about it on my favourite modelling forum as my work at the moment is stressful and depressing enough.
We can all help each other by maintaining a bit of normality on the forum and if you need help we are, of course, here to help.
-
Sorry, not on Mayhem, we all know how it will go.... :police:
Lots of discussions on Facebook etc.....
Thanks Martin - my boat building is my get away and I would like it to stay that way too
-
Why is it that those who don't want to read about Coronavirus feel the need to click the link to a topic that is about it?
Not interested = Don't click link. :-))
-
I agree with others, Ban Coronavirus on the Forum, come here to get away from stuff like that, enough of it on the news, also these things tend to swamp the forum in postings, pushing anything actually interesting of the front page..

Accepting help and putting up with the restrictions beats the heck out of the alternative.

YER SIX FOOT UNDER used the vac yesterday what a wonderfull thing it is {-) {-) {-) washing machine next
-
Hi Regiment. I am OK with the vac but I think you are going a bit too far with the washing machine! Think of the implications for all of us if our ladies ever found out we could use the washing machine!
I used to repair mine (good old days) but denied all knowledge of how to operate one. I admit to doing the ironing now and again, but washing machines!
All the best, keep away from the rest of us and hope we all come through intact.
Roy
-
At least one bit of good news one old lady recovered completely in Italy she is 95 :-)
-
:-)
-
Hi regiment, you have got away with doing household chores but it's surprising what you can do
You can even peg the washing out in this fine weather {-)
My wife bless her suffers from MS so I have had to do everything as a matter of course but l find
Ironing therapeutic I really enjoy that, and cooking, baking etc
John
-
Ironing therapeutic not for my mate when the phone rang Ouch!
-
Hi jemac, you're supposed to put the phone to your ear not the iron {-) {-) {-)

As a front line worker in an industry allowed to remain open (the wife's in distribution for a foil company that supplies to manufactures so foil on the things you buy, me, transport), I had been told to take the rest of my remaining holiday hours or lose them, so I am off till the 1st April, a full 7 days (3 of which were days off anyway), and in all this time I have suffered the common cold and a cough that wont go away, caught from my eldest who works for a well known fast food outlet that has now closed, as he works at receiving the deliveries and is either in or out of a freezer for 75% of the shift he catches a lot of colds, so, this B****y cold is a sniffel as I get the jab every year, the sporadic cough is a result from what they used to call 'fluid on the lungs' and only a really good dose of hot weather will shift, so knowing that lot at work, will probably be told to self isolate for no good reason. >>:-(
Oh and the point of the above, the cough means I cannot finish the boat as its all the delicate stuff >>:-(
-
I am also still trying to shake off the remains of the cold/cough bug which I caught back in February. I have had it on previous occasions although I avoided it last year. It seems to take up to five weeks to go altogether.

I'm working on the theory that a high volume of whisky vapour in the respiratory system might be beneficial.

Some might consider my opinion as a negative outlook, but l come here to escape stress, reality and get a little bit of " me time ".
You could say that l have buried my head in the sand... So be it.... Can we stick to building, leave the outside world to the news
I do have an enormous amount of respect for those helping others during this time !!
This is a model boat site for builders......
Baldrick, I drink my whiskey.... Inhaling is new to me

As I have said before nobody forced you to click the link to this topic and it does help to provide a safety valve to those that need it. I don't think that it is being misused nor weighing heavily on the rest of the forum.
-
IMHO all permutations of the name of this virus should be added to the forum setup of "censored" words
They would then be automatically removed before a post was saved
Easy to say don't click on link - can't avoid seeing the reference in recent posts summary
Just my tuppence

Well I have been using time my sorting all the bits in the workshop, as if we go out over here we have to fill in a form which we must carry with us (135 euro fine without it)....so I found all this radio control stuff I don't remember a certain Mr M selling me (for those who haven't guessed I am a high speed steam chap)...so thought arghh put some bits together.......mrs Steamboat Apprentice says .......remember what happened last time.....(Mr M kindly repaired said burnt electronics).....so guess who I am going to be bothering.. {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)

Anyone up for a giggle?
I think this sums up the current crisis perfectly...
Youtube link removed, 'robust' language.
We aim for a 'family safe' Forum here on Mayhem - Admin
Yes I know Tugtower but we've learnt this lesson many times before .....
PM Tugtower if you want the link

Bother away Phil, but it all works if you RTFM. I'm sorry for the acronym but this is a family-friendly forum. Anyroad up, m'duck, electrics is far easier to grasp than very hot pipes. Mutual respect, dude.
Meantime PM me for further shocks about repair costs.......especially for ex-pats. 8)
Big love to you and Steph.

I just went out and did the clappy thing! There were few of us out on our doorsteps this time.
At least when I worked offshore I had a reasonably important job (we went out fixing leaks and sorting failures. If I couldnt join the vessel at crew change it was a problem. Not able to do that for ages because of a forced job change, and now stuck working from home now I feel particularly worthless.
Well done everyone still keeping things going! I'm trying to do some donations to worthwhile causes while I'm stuck home not spending on diesel each week etc.
Rich

NB: RTFM originally was the abbreviation off: Read The Flipping Manual.
-
Working from home ???? I am not allowed to... We supply to the trades people over here and we're classed as essential services... The folks helping to keep the places functioning. Who knew selling a toilet or other parts to hospitals, police stations etc would be so important. Besides, my wife <*< is working from home now.... So off to work I go %%
-
Keep going and respect you, it's a month now since I last saw a tinned of chopped tomatoes or pretty much anything tissue based. I don't want to stock-up but one of each would help. I fear for you over the pond. It's all been coming for long enough.
-
There are still a bunch of Darwen candidates in the north west, GM Police reportedly broke up 500 parties over the last week, and around here, as the roads are supposedly quiet (you wouldn't think so with the number of cars passing) the motorcyclists and souped up car drivers are revving and speeding on a regular basis each day past ours. >>:-( >>:-(

Well said Reggi... and what a nice place Perranporth is. I spent one of our most enjoyable family holidays there staying in Rose Cottage, that's all I remember of the address it was in 1976. We were there during the heatwave.
