While Im on building the Aeronaut Queen and waiting on some parts I wanted to have
a go at building a small yacht. I picked the Aeronaut Bellissima as I am impressed with
the Queen that I am building and wanted something simple. Frame went together very
quickly and I have just tacked on the mahogany panels. Only thing of note was the front
of the panels where they go into the jig at the front was tight so I relieved the jig slightly
so no damage was caused to the panels.
One thing learnt from the Queen build is don't get glue on the mahogany as it marks the
wood, if you try and sand it out you end up with a pale part in the panel so next job is to
cover the mahogany in masking tape.

Yes its quite big at 1200mm in length.

Hi I have the smaller version, Bella. Although my one was partly started when I did some swaps for it, the keel on Bella is only 3mm thick. This is not enough to support the lead weight when the yacht is on her side. My one had been stored on its side for some time and the keel wood had bent and twisted.
If the Bellisima has a keel less than 6mm thick then I suggest you glue 3mm ply or Bass wood to both sides to strengthen it. It will need sanding down to an aerofoil section. More if you want.

I have to say they all look good but you do need to make them!
Trial fitted bottom skins for the hull but appear to be too narrow and short so
going to remake them bespoke. Cant see what Ive done wrong but the Aeronaut
Queen bottom panels were a bit small too.
Just ordered a scroll saw as going to be building a Bearospace Annie so it will
come in handy.

Made a start on remaking the bottom skins. Much better fit now.

Finished the bottom of the hull, the ply skins I made were a much better fit,
not perfect but much better. Im now working on the inside fitting top inner rails
and a couple of strengthener strips at the stern. Next is to paint with Mr Smiths
penetrating epoxy. Will give it four coats as I did on the Queen build.

Got side tracked with house building stuff and not done much. Ready to put the deck on the Bellissima
and started painting the bottom of the hull of the Queen. Nice kits but not perfect as i think I have
mention in the build logs. Would I buy another Aeronaut kit? Yes overall nice things but need some
modelling skills to perfect.

Hi this is my Aeronaut Bella with my retro look as a gaff cutter. The change in sail plan also meant I put a bowsprit in place so that the rig balanced out OK.
