Title: Damen Shipyard Crane Barge 4518 "Friesland" 1/87 scale
Post by: mikromodell on May 26, 2020, 07:47:20 am
My Damen Shipyard crane barge 4518 "Friesland" is now operational but not yet finished completely. Window wipers are still missed and and a few other parts. My building diary can be found here, I try to maintain it in english language, too: http://www.mikromodell.eu/cranebarge03.html (http://www.mikromodell.eu/cranebarge03.html)

In December 2019 the first tests have been performed as this movie shows: https://youtu.be/jzw75Q9BJkI (https://youtu.be/jzw75Q9BJkI)  The little speed boat "Alex" lost its cabin, "Friesland" recovered it. "Friesland" is a fictious vessel with port of registry "Cuxhaven". The prototype on Damen Shipyard's sites can be found here:  https://products.damen.com/en/ranges/crane-barge/crane-barge-4518 (https://products.damen.com/en/ranges/crane-barge/crane-barge-4518)

Now I'm waiting for the end of corona crisis. Miniatur Wunderland ist opened again, but it's not possible to cruise there with our ships because then we could not keep the needed distance (we are a little group of volunteers).

All superb model technical achievements  :-))  ...congratulations Harry  O0

One interesting point is that the crane power generation plant appears to have 3 very large cooling fans......which indicates a very high level of technology/efficiency......the downside is if power is cut to cooling = all functions STOP

When the  Miniatur Wunderland is open again, please post more images & video

Thank you Derek  :-)
Yes, on the prototype the crane is quite big and powerful. My model has a less big crane. It was the only matching 1:87 kit I could find.

Some additional details, the radio controlled functions:

Lights:
15 electrical circuits for lightning - the model can show all operation modes correctly (a working dredger has a lot of lights )

4 auxiliary winches for positioning the vessel (will be used for tug towing)
6 winches for showing/hiding daylight shapes1 drive for radar antenna4 drives for crane movement
2 drives for schottel propellers (motors of 7mm diameter are running under water)
1 bowthruster
still planned:1 drive for moving the battery pack for keeping balance during heavy load working

The Wunderland is open again. But not for our ships because of we need too much space  {:-{ We will take a lot of pictures and movies when we can use the NorthernBalticSea again  :-)

I created a short movie which shows the working winches and so on:

Some minor works are still necessary (new hook for the crane, some wheathering at the exhausts...)
