I have bought some Tamyia hull red thinking it would be the ideal paint for anti fouling red, but now I have it I think it looks very brown in the bottle not red. Has anyone used it ? Does it look different on the model, Steve.

hi there
I have used Tamiya hull red a while ago, when I built the 63ft Whaleback (the one in the Master class section) this was the first time I had used acrylic paints and I have used it the same way I used Humbrol i.e. just paint normally with a brush. I found you couldn't overpaint as it just tended to tear the previous painted piece off - remedied this with watering it down with Tamiya thinners and this seemed to work.
The colour itself is very close to the original number 177 Humbrol Hull red - which sadly isn't produced these days.
I tend to use Humbrol brick red number 70 to paint hull anti-fouling.
Also I have used several paints from Sovereign Hobbies - they do have a good range of paints.
Hope this helps. John

Hello Steve,
Please don't laugh at this reply with the lock-down and model and d I y shops closed I thought I had a tin of Halfords red primer but no looking around my workshop and what did I find a old tin of Wicks red step and tile paint and thought I wonder so a few days later two coats and a Ronseal matt varnish perfect would I use it again to right I would think out-side the box you might get surprised I was I'll be out of red hull paint again.
Regards Howard.

I was given a jar of the correct colour antifoul by the boats owner, so used that, same with the boot topping

I used this hull red many years ago and I have to say it did not look right. Nothing wrong with the paint just the colour did not seem right.
