You could always post it over to Fabrice, or as a preliminary...do you belong to a Model Steam boat group?......if so, why not have a talk to members & outline your query

Hi Madboats
Do you know the make of this plant/engine, if Cheddar then Jerry at Clevedon Steam would look at it I'm sure.

Hello Mikew!
Are you sure that the lack of power is coming from the engine ?
Maybe interesting to check the engine with compressed air. Check if there is a leak out of the engine (gasket?) , I doubt it.
If you have a rev's counter , check if you can reach 2500rpm (or more with 2 b (30 psi) pressure. Not in charge.
Do not forget to flood the engine with light oil for the breaking. Check if any stiff point.
Those engines like oil as much as an 'Aussie' likes beer! %) {-)
Let us know. You will make it.

Bonjour Madboats,
Several of my small machines have no flywheel and I do not notice a difference. I think it is planned to give a smoother operation and I have also learnt, even if I do not apply it, that it is better to put it on the propeller shaft side to avoid torsion of the crankshaft in the event of inadvertent blockage of the propeller in operation.
If you wish one, I would kindly suggest you to buld a large "TOC" (machine / propeller shaft connection) like this example to compensate the lack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utYZJDJPBVg&t=1s (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utYZJDJPBVg&t=1s)
