And so it begins,a project I've wanted to do for ages, propshafts in, props on, rudder installed, drilling of port holes started.

Hi Vanguard,
I’ve built this kit, but converted it to HMHS Britannic, however I learnt to late in the build that the superstructure Is very top heavy. The makes the model very tender To sail. So I would only sail it at are club pond (Settley pond) In very light winds to flat calm. I have lighten the main decking and first deck of the superstructure by cutting large section out. In hind sight I would have lighten all the upper decks.

Thanks Dave T888, I will try to lighten as much as I can, my club is at Setley are you a club member ? It would be good to see two sisters steam together, now we need someone to do Rms Olympic. I did think of altering Titanic to Olympic the spray guard wouldn't be too difficult but then there's the name decals 😕. Maybe after Titanic I will try Olympic 😊.

There is another member of the club that has a trumpeter kit, which he is converting to the Olympic, so there should in time be all three White Star liners.

I really like the pads on the hull sides that the cables are tied to, can you tell me what they are / where you got them?

Update on Titanic, all the port holes that I'm going to illuminate are drilled out, the anti fouling red and hull black and yellow stripe and white tops are painted. Took her to the pond Sunday and with the help of Dave T888 we got her in the water and trimmed her to the waterline, not much adjustment required so I'm very happy 😊.
So there's just shy of 5kg, will re trim her when the superstructure is complete, here's some pics

Steve, please she trimmed out nicely, alway happy to help out anther modeller, as I said Sunday just be very careful with the superstructure weight.

Agree with T888. With plastic kits it is the weight of the superstructure which is the killer for a working model. Even it it seems stable in the bath the wind on a pond can just push it over.
It is a good idea to make provision for an external keel as I found to be necessary with the Revell Queen Mary 2.

Here's an update on Titanic, she's been launched and tested on the water, wood veneer decks added, superstructure nearly completed. The lighting has been fitted and here's some pictures, next the stacks go to the paint shop and the fitting out begins.

Does the hull floor need any reinforcement for all that weight?

It's not that heavy in actual fact, I have a Graupner HMS Hood and that's a bit longer but twice the weight of Titanic. The hull is quite thick as well, I was worried at first there was alot of lead, about 4.5kg of it but as the superstructure and radio gear has gone in I've had to remove the lead. I have put in bracing strips which I can take photos of, but all in all she's very sturdy.

Just pleased it worked and helps how it makes the model look.
Once I get over the funeral of my father in law, I’ll get back to finishing off Britannic.
