Title: Captive Drum winch
Post by: Nick Webster on July 29, 2020, 07:14:58 pm
Having just bought a vintage 10 Rater requiring some work in the rigging department I am puzzled about the sail control. The servo is not a continuous loop, but neither does there seem to be any evidence of tensioning the single line e.g. with elastic. I would like to keep the decks tidy. The servo drum is broken which strikes me is probably as a result of a tangle. I read that there is such a thing as a captive drum winch servo. A search on here reveals only one posting about this years ago, wheres there are umpteen about traditional set ups. Also advertisements for captive drums are not that common either. So not the best thing since sliced bread? Comments welcome.

Don't use a "captive drum" - those fail and fail and fail.
Change it for a normal continuous loop or elastic system
