Title: Home made Jet Pack
Post by: Andy M on September 16, 2020, 10:32:12 pm
Here is my home made jet pack, I use it for flying trips and must say it performs exactly as I hoped it would. It is built onto a rucksack which can be unclipped in a minute. [/size]Its not quite the jetpack I imagined as a child but it works perfectly for my purposes, 4 of my jets fit in the pack. Lol.Its made from a twinwall cardboard box I got free when I bought 5 quadcopters at once. 😁It is folded over and cable tied together. My 44 inch glider wing folded in half fits in beside its fuselage and my bigger micro jet fuselage goes on the outside with its wing and fin tucked under the motorgliderTransmitter is lashed down in one corner and airbag things (also free with the quadcopters) pad up the spare space. The other stuff, spare transmitter batteries, model batteries and my paracord model retriever with big lead weight on end all fits in the rucksack side pockets.

Not sure about the string on the top part of the pack, might need to strengthen that.. %)

You might want to waterproof that cardboard

I have a rain cover (black bin bag) and the lid is quite firmly shut by itself, but the rucksack waist strap holds the bottom shut anyway

The mashed hole in the centre of jet cockpit was from a branch of a tree it landed in.
I had thought of painting the jet pack but I dont tend to go flying when it looks like rain... and I have my trusty bin bag for emergency cover.

Haha! When I saw the words 'Jet Pack' I assumed you were going to take off yourself!

Thats what my friend said when I started telling him about it. This type is much safer than the flying about and dropping out of the sky type. I know I must look a bit mad cycling around with it on but it better than damaging my planes. The fact I can take up to 4 planes with me is amazing.

Hi Andy,

Ha! Glad it wasn't just me thinking you'd found a cheaper way to go on holibobs recently.  Bit dissapointed now, it was very convincing when I saw it but maybe a phot chop now I look again.  If you measured the distance between those jets supposedley in formation they would never have been right....

Just like the old school book covering exercise with your mum, maybe you could epoxy the bin bag to the box, i.e. cut the bin bag along the bottom or side to create a sheet of plastic, then cover the box using a suitable adhesive, line the inside as well in case a jet is wet from your days messing about, then it's already for the emergency downpour or the up-splash from running your bike through a puddle  ;D :-)) %) {-)

I have loads of part rolls of sticky backed plastic someone gave me 20 odd years ago. My only problem is that the cardboard is really thick and folding it over and cable tying it has pulled dimples into the surface, and the corners are kind of 'bulgy'. Getting my sticky backed plastic to conform to this would be untidy.
Its the mk 1 version, so its allowed to have bits that need refined. If I did it again, I would be tempted to use twinwall correx type stuff
