I'm looking for a good powerfull motor gearbox combo for some tugs both are twin screw one has 50mm props the other has 70mm props. they both will be used for tug towing and thought you guys may be able to help as i usually go big and direct drive as some will know but want to try something new

550 motors on 2 or 3:1 reduction gearbox (Model Slipway can supply) and run on 12 volts.

speaking of gearboxes, anyway of cutting down the growl of them? obviously straight cogs they wont be totally silent, but if only I could cut the noise down on southampton

are you using gears or belts ?

standard cogged box, something like 3.4 to 4-1, pencil eraser sized input 2p coin sized output, plastic cogs, straight cut, sounds like a cat in agony

Just change to toothed belt system

easier said than done, its the southampton RTR, the gearbox is also the engine mounts, all you see of the motors is the contacts for the wires, and the cogs on the outside.

post a picture if you can you may be able to change the internals.
