Title: Proellor ... stators?
Post by: Martin (Admin) on November 22, 2020, 01:53:47 am

Saw this on Utube, anyone any idea what's going on here, the vanes / stators in front of the prop?

Looks like they are copying gas turbine technology which utilities similar stators to guide the air to the next compressor stage.

Most of these ideas are about efficiency.  Variable pitch pre-swirler or anti-swirl device?
I wonder if he blob on the leading edge of the rudder is part of the set?
Will it get incorporated into a model?

It looks as if the blob will line up nicely with the prop hub when it's in the straight ahead position, so it may well be part of the 'efficiency' package.

Obviously someone has been running the hull through a laminar flow computer program to redirect the flow.

I do not believe that this is terribly new technology. Submarines, and I believe torpdeo manufacturers,  have been using this arrangement for years while adding a ringed propulsor and even exit stator fins. It does appear to be a first for the commercial sector though.
