Scotland seems to get much more interesting weather than us down here . Never heard of thunder snow before , we don't even get much of the quiet stuff now thanks to global warming

Be careful what you wish for! Bad weather can be expensive.

We're about 35 - 40 miles north of Edinburgh as the crow flies and quite a few people in the village were woken by the thunder, including SWMBO. I slept through it, never heard a thing.

I'm about 15-20miles west at the moment in Polmont and we must have slept through it. I've heard of the phrase before though -wasnt it talked about a couple of years ago? We had a thunderstorm in Inverness this summer and the windows were rattling, my car alarm went off at one big bang, you could feel the big claps on your face and chest (I was watching from my front door). Had a foot of water on the street outside within 15mins.
I'm glad I drove down from Inverness late afternoon yesterday. It was heading for -10 on the high ground on the car thermometer. Snow all the way to Perth but the A9 was clear.

My area has had some episodes of thundersnow in the past although the thunder was not that loud. Last night however there was the loudest clap of thunder I have ever heard, not surprised that some had reported thursdays thunder as an explosion, no snow however just rain. No sign of a lightning flash before the noise however did get a couple of bright lightning flashes later in the evening.

The word 'Thundersnow' makes it sound more dramatic than it really is. Thundersnow is just a thunderstorm with snow as precipitation instead of rain. Like any thunderstorm, sometimes there are big bangs, other times not.
