Bonjour et bonne année
You mentioned in a post early to one of my questions that you do testing in the bathtub before you go to a pond for further testing.
Crazy question - does your smoke/heat detector go off? Do you disconnect them or does a small steam plant like the MSM Clyde make no difference.

Are your smoke detectors mains powered / wired?
If so, I don't think you can..... turn off the whole house? .... buy a paddling pool?!

Not so much the need for a smoke detector, but Gas Detector that can sense the lack of O2 [oxygen] in the atmosphere
These units are compulsory when working or inspecting in gaseous environments such as Blast Furnaces or Coke Making Departments in the Steel Industry
The human body does not detect the lack of oxygen.....and can fall into a painless slumber without coughing O0 Goodnight Nurse %)

If you're asking about France the rules are different. First thing I did when I got my apartment in Guyancourt was fit a battery in the smoke alarm and buy an extinguisher and fire blanket. I was quite surprised that wasn't mandatory for a rental.

In France , the only thing mandatory when you rent a flat or a house is to have a smoke detector placed in the higher point of the place.
But, .... they regularly wake you up in the middle of the night , for no reason. So most of the people take the battery off and sleep well ! O0
Above all those who smoke inside !
Have a good and healthy year , far away from this virus! In Brittany we're fighting against it !

Derek, I have a smoke detector in the hallway of my flat and it starts if I grill a steak in the kitchen without turning on the fan or opening the window >:-o Let's say I test it some times to times...
In the bathroom, I always open (even just a little) the window and have never had any problem with it.
Do you know a better solution to simulate a navigation on the pond when you live in a flat ? Mine has no swimming pool :}
And I also test in my kitchen. Currently, I am restoring several old boilers and my first test over the chemneys is... with my nose ok2

Besides this, gas is heavier than air, so I think the smoke detector would not detect any thing...

I think you answered my question as did others. We in Canada must have smoke detectors on all floors and a carbon monoxide detector too.
I have an area in my basement with a window that I can crack and will close the door. The detector is 30 feet away. Will disconnect the detector too.
I have my steam plant out of the boat so the bathroom is not needed yet.
Yes, I am blessed with a pool but only open 6 months of the year. Damn Canadian weather.
Will give it a try and get back to you.
