So adding a few pics before starting the boat.

Looks to be in reasonable condition Harry, tiller rods look like care has been taken when installed.
Well, looking forward to your updates.  :-))

Hi Ray

Personally I would had installed oiler in the rudder shaft.

It's a standard thing with my boats after two locking up and another two leaking water in.

Two are my builds and the other two second hand.

HI Ray

Too much trouble to change it now !!!

Looks like WD40 added to the kit !!!

Broke two bits today, one the mast top cross bar(replaced with brass) and one bollard top(all fixed and repaint).

Removed the white painted name on one side(what a job) and repainted.

Sanded back the other side name to match the stern.

Also ripped out the motor mounts and made new ones.

Moving the motors more to the stern because of the short prop shafts !!!

Hi All

The motor platform has come a way from the hull bottom, but still glue to wooden timber running up the keel.

So I super glue to some of the areas.

I bored eight holes in the mount and added foam filler.

Add weight and this morning, all solid as a rock.

Glue the motor mounts into and check the couplings for alignment and free spinning.

Back to finishing the boat stand.

I think it's the best one I have made to far.

Which turn me onto the stand for the Sea Raven which as it sitting on the stand a lot better.

As it's hit 30C I have call it a day until later !!!

What type of motors are these Harry?....externally mounted brush gear? and are the green cylinderical-bits inbuilt capacitors?.. Derek

Hi Derek
The motors are 540 Rock Crawler Motors 80 turn (5,500 rpm @ 7.2 volts)(unloaded).

The Capacitors are build inside the case.

I have use these motors in my Eileen, 2 Helen fishing boat running a 60mm 3 blade prop(no cooling) with no problems.

Found them on Hobbyking and Banggood only about $15au.

The ESCs are Hobbywing Quicrun 60Amp with no problems going straight from forward into reverse unlike the Msonik RV20 I have.

Hi All

Finished the boat stand and started on the rudder servo mount.
Also the lift out wheelhouse and deck section was not sitting right with a little twist in it.
I add my usual double 10mm magnetic set up with one fix the the boat hull and the other to the lift off section.
Also added a strip of timber on the forward end so the wheelhouse will not lift off.

I like your stand, next time my Neddy comes in for maintenance I'll have to make something similar.

Don't know if you've seen my referb but it's here if you want a lengthy read... https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,52330.0.html

ANOTHER BOAT!!!  {-)
Mind you, at least you get yours done quicker than I do.

I've always liked the look of the Smit Nederland tug, I just think they look right.

Yet another thread for me to follow.

Keep up the good work Harry.

Hi All

Well yesterday was toasting lead day in an old 7" cake tin with folded corners and tapered sides.

Made up two divider steel plates to change the size of the pieces.
Easier than cutting lead blocks !!!!

Weight each other and mark the weight on each.

Custom fitted two strips into the stern keel.

Today was ballast day with the two 2S 4000mah lipo batteries!!!

Mark out the forward and stern weights.

Back home and added the servo mount.

Setup the radio system with tank steering.

I can start to plan out the final out lay inside the boat.

Well, you're getting there. Like the way you sort out the lead - as you know, it's quite an effort to get such a large, deep hull down to her lines.

Hi Ray
The lead fine tuned with a 2 pound hammer !!!

I did use a course file as well!!!

I like to get the weight down as low as I can.

If the motor platform was not glue in, some would be under that.

Hi Lads

Well she hit the water with power!!!

The turning is super great, donuts on the water !!!
The 80 turn 540 rock crawler motors on 7.2 volts(2S lipos) will have be slowed down a lot.

Have problem with one shaft(port) leaking water !!!

I think the shaft has not been glue in correctly.

Wot a day, sailing in the morning, barbie lunch and bought 16 boats(with a mate) !!!!

Well, what can we say?.....I am thinking both guitar parts were played on Stratocasters?....by older semi-classically musicians .....and would not the piece be qualified as Fugue like?' , but possibly inspired in later lives by Messrs Marvin or Knofler?........

Let me know if I am 1 million miles wrong  :embarrassed:

Amazing donuts!
With those Billings becker rudders, too. I hope I get the same agility - once I get to sailing...
I have been rather pessimistic about the rudders. Seems I need not worry.
To compensate, I am planning to program my system to allow tractor drive mixed with rudder action. I wonder, if it's even possible.

She looks spot on Harry and as you say, excellent manoeuvrability too.

I would love to build a model of one of the old Garth tugs that used to be in Milford Haven and my Dad used to be engineer on, Graygarth was the one he was on, so would have to be based upon that one.
I'm not up to attempting the detail etc that goes into a tug yet and it would annoy me if I didn't make it look accurate, so that will have to wait while I improve (hopefully) my skills on my other boats.

I  mean _tank drive_. Running the motors in opposite directions. In theory the vessel should turn on a coin...

Hi Hande

I fix my water leaks and the the tank steering is amazing!!!

I was doing donuts around a mooring post today and it's a totally blast to show off what the boat can do !!!

My club mate and I were both donut-ing at the same time, as he has a Fairey Fantome with tank steering as well !!!

Hi All

Added sealing foam around the deck lift out section and closed into the forward section back to the main frame section under the wheelhouse.

Nice snug fit and removed the closed in sections along the bulwarks so the water can escape.
