Evening All!
I know 2.4GHz radio don't work under water, what modern radios do work? 40Mhz etc? ( For use in USA )
-
The frequency for land or boats in the USA was 75MHz (or 27MHz) these are less used now as 2.4 GHz is more common but second hand sets should be easily available. This frequency should work with out any problems with submarines.
Note 72 MHz was also used but was only for aircraft and some still use it for this purpose so should not be used in boats. Just like in the UK 40 MHz is for boats or cars and 35 MHz is only for aircraft, some still fly with 35 MHz so it should never be used in boats.

Submarine radios in the USA use 75mhz or 27 mhz. They are now few and far between. They can be found used on several forums like The SubCommittee. 40mhz is not legal to use in the US.

also available for use in the US:
915mhz, license free, and
433mhz, with a ham license.
you can find the following on ebay (433mhz)
ImmersionRC EzUHF transmitter module and receivers
you can find the following on ebay and through any FrSky authorized reseller (915mhz)
r9m and r9 receivers
any transmitter with a "JR" style module bay will work with both. FrSky makes both "JR" style modules and "Lite" style modules that will work with there newer "Lite" transmitters.
