Title: ModelBoat Mayhem Ship !!!
Post by: The long Build on October 22, 2007, 06:15:11 PM
Seeing Martins Large luxury mega yacht on the name that ship thread made me think (hard enough at the best of times)

This forum has 1500 members and increasing,
there are forum badges, shirts caps etc made by individuals but I can see no mention of a MAYHEM ship.
With all the skill and expertease that the forum members have to offer I am sure that a new possibly unconventional design type ship could be designed say to a reasonable length of 36 –48 inches or there a bouts (Ease of transport).
Looking at the fantasy build shows that anything is possible.

If it turns out that a number of people would be willing to draw, design a ship, the designs could be put to a poll to narrow it down to 3 (I think I watch to much x-factor) and then the ultimate judge The First Sea Lord Martin would make the final decision as to which one would support the Mayhem Logo and Colours. or maybe the other way round ?

Hopefully then members, guests could request the plans, obviously paying to have them printed or put on pdf form and costed such that maybe a small donation could also be given to charity say the RNLI or similar.
I had already started this thread and now see from the Idiotic Modeler thread that this could possible integrated with “Blazingpenguins thought on reply 29”

Similar maybe to The build the bismark idea but you get your own materials.

Allthought there is a lot of mention of the Springer tugs on this site and a dedicated topic heading  I do not think that they were  designed by Forum members , rather adopted , may be wrong !!

The Springer design was designed by a Mr (wait for it)Springer of the North West ship Modellers Club in the Seattle area of the USA. Most were based on the river "towboats" with the very distinctive tall pilothouses to allow the skipper to see over the barges being pushed.  web site specialises in these craft. The Springer Class rules allow any style of superstructure above the deck , standardised motor, prop and rudder, hull size and shape make an easy one design class for water games and towing etc. Lord High Admiral Martin and His Excellency Bradders thought they might be a novelty easy-build and fun boat for the Mayhem Weekend and adopted them as Longbuild said.
