im starting to build a 1:72 scale Hermann Marwede Search and rescue Vessel using a Revell kit as she looked intresting and i have made 1:72 scale airoplanes for years
im going to post pics as i go along
when i got the kit with a beam of 5 inch and being 25 inch long it looked like she could be a very stable boat on the water but i didn't see the boat ramp at the back ???
so the first 3 pics

now the boat ramp is a pain
there are three rudders but the center 1 is right under the boat ramp
As you can see in pic 1 iv had to cut the ramp out as it starts under the water line and is part of the hull but the deck needs to be removable to give accsess to rudders and motors
pic 2 and 3 are my first try with the rudder it works but i think i may need to buy 2 proper rudders and have the center rudder fixed in place

now this boat can't cost me much as the wife is on the war path as it is with my fist build costing too much
so most of it will be out of other things my son has brocken the motors are out of a rc plane he crashed into a car it was a cheap 2 channel thing with 4 small motors
pic 1 motors being fitted thay are epoxed in useing the mounts from the plane so the motor can be replaced if needed

I have started on the super structure as i am not sure how to do the rudders ??? >:(

pic 3 as you can see i cut a hole in the front deck to give accsess to the battery and balest and the hole of the back deck comes off to give accsess to the motors and rudders if i can work out how to do them

I also have one of these kits, as yet unstarted.
Where did you get your safts and couplers from?
As cost is a factor, I wonder if you would get away with fixed rudders and steering just using the motors?

Ok iv been playing with the rudders had a look at the link and thinking about paint
so
pic 1 i used a tea light to heat some brass tube and put it into each rudder
pic 2 after some advice from my other post on ModelBoatMayhem i made a linkage for all 3 rudders may need to do it again but it works for now
pic 3 the rudders in and inline and thay move ;D

i have been thinking about powering her so now shes flotes iv had i look at her displacement
with the hole of the back part of the boat fills with water so the rudder links are submerged at the moment she has a bulkhead 3 and a half inch from the stern this may stay like this as it means i can glue the boat ramp back to the rear deck so when removed i will have full accsess to the rudder linkages

now i dun a bit of the paint found a battery and tested her in the bath
pic1 i got the battery out of a touch i bought from lidel a fue weeks ago its a 6v 4Ah battery it came with incar and mains charger for the touch for the grand sum of ?5.99
pic2 is a pic from the back it's not a mint its the boat with the hole :o
pic 3 this is how she sits in the water with all the running gear exept speed controller as i cant aford one and im not taking the 1 out of sir kay as im sailing her over the next fue days
she has RX,RX Battries,main battery 2 servos and most of the super structure so what do you think to the water line? ???

Probably a bit late for those of you who have already started this project - but there's a build article on the 'Hermann Marwede' in the May 2006 edition of the German magazine SchiffsModell. The problem (in my case at least) is I don't speak German - and my computer translation programme is not at all good! The pictures are good though and show the release mechanism for the 'Tochterboot' quite clearly. iv been away with work for a week so not much progress but iv desided that if i cut the back of the support boat off the stearing will be easyer so

iv also started to do some lighting
iv started with 3 of the spot lights

Nice work on your boat. I just started the same kit and have been wondering how to get past the rudder linkage problem. I love the lights, should make for some great night time pictures.

There was a forum size limitation implemented about 8-10 months ago, I wonder if it's that?
Do you still have the originals? I'll repost them if you email them to me or you can use photo bucket for larger photos....

I've found this on several of the threads too. Most anoying sometimes. I guess its upto the author of the thread to keep things right.
Anyway. My Hermann turned up today %%
What a lot of parts! But it gets better! I have found that there are no less than two sets of photo etched parts for the kit! My local hobby pusher, is getting them in the shop so I will be waiting for those before I start. (Gives me time to save up for all the other parts to!)
Would it be better to go for three small motors or one and a gearbox to three shafts?
Any recomendations to electronics for this ship would be cool to. Due to its small size it is quite limited to what I can get hold of here, so I guess I'll be doing a lot of internet shopping soon.
