Hi everyone, I've managed to grab myself a 1/200 Hood. Now it's my intention to R/C the kit and I'll be getting a Running set from Deans Marine but has anyone built one and how did you seal the hull down. Any advice gratefully accepted.

Yes utter brain fart there. I was wondering how fit the deck so I can access the motors, rudder and batteries. In my very limited building experience I always used a Deansmarine kit with all the openings etc

If you Google Trumpeter Hood R/C conversion you will find a lot of stuff including videos. These should give you some ideas on accessing the interior.

It's probably the slowest build ever... longer than the original I guess, but what's the rush?!

I guess you would have to decide where to cut the deck or make an opening above the rudders and build watertight coaming to match ..... {:-{

Construction of Hood began at the John Brown & Company shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland, as yard number 460 on 1 September 1916.
After her sea trials, she was commissioned on 15 May 1920

Thanks Martin for the links,I have been watching Alexbuilds and it quite interesting. As for your wiki link for Hoods construction I have a little family connection in that my grandfather was one of the foreman painters on her. I also have some of her builders trials photos taken from the original plates and I've actually handled her plans.

Very simple answer use rare earth magnets this will allow all of the deck to be removed. Used this method many times.

Thanks Stan, I was considering this method for another build but I didn't go ahead with using them so I've a fair amount of rare earths sitting in my "workshop"

Nothing fitted on the joint draughts insulation tape would be a good way of sealing the hull. The insulation tape is self adhesive and of course it will compress easily. :-))

Thanks everyone ,especially Stan, for all you help so far. I won't be starting Hood until the beginning of the new year as I intend to get everything in place before I start. As soon as the "Keel" is laid I'll try and post some photos of the build.
