Title: Southampton Tug
Post by: Skimmer Fan on March 17, 2022, 10:37:57 am
I am trying to resurrect a Southampton tug but there is a black component on the back of the motor.
Can anybody tell me what it is and where I could get a replacement.

The reduced image is too indistinct to be sure or see how it is connected. It looks like a small bobbin inductor (https://www.google.com/search?q=bobbin+inductor&source=lnms&tbm=isch).
You don't need one of these or similarly shaped electrolytic capacitor to suppress a motor using 40MHz or 2.4GHz rc.
You can dispense with it.

Hi.
having to replace a motor on our Southampton Tug, but just wondered what the Item in the picture does, the +- from the ESC goes through this first and then onto the motor but one has been damaged !!, when we tested them the voltage going in is the same as what is coming out so assume they are not a resistor.

Thanks

I suggested the mod on duty could tack this thread onto skimmer fan's Southampton Help (https://www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,68003.0.html) question.

The function was suppression but I note folk change these boats to 2.4GHz which makes it redundant.

Thanks.
had forgotten the question had been asked already.
