I recognise those parts ok2 lol - your prints have come out nice and clean. Did you print with support for the hull? The internal support was a bit of a pain to remove on my one.

Didn't use supports for the hull (Quick and dirty print) , so there are some clean-up in the stern and the box opening above the rudder post is not looking that nice, but hey it's covered by the hatch.

I wasn't aware that Plastic Magic actually worked on PLA. Thanks for the hint!

Small progress and much sanding, can't open my phone with fingerprint {-)
Plastic Magic is great, I use a small bottle with a thin metal tube to apply enough before it is absorbed by the material.
Now time for some epoxy coating.
Looking for a good UV light so I can use UV resin and cure it quickly.

I can relate to the much sanding. I've got the hull of my RC Benchy about as smooth as it's going to get. Not as smooth as it could be mind you, just as smooth as it's going to get.

Hi, for smothing out printed hulls I've used regular red oxide (oil based) primer brushed on OK before though it's a bit thick for fine details -but he idea is that it should cover striations easily.
I can't vouch for sure, but my old Johnstones tin dried out after many years of service. I found a tin of "151 red oxide" and used it on my puffer and it worked great. 2 coats and makes sanding back inbetween much easier -I use Revell enamel (email) as final coat(s).

I don't have a good pic of before (only what I can see as the rough striations on my own pics.) but the couple of pics here of my puffer are of the worst curvature and I did not sand hard -just enough to key paint then sanded back after first coat and again after second. I also encclose a pic of the full hull. I think this was after 2 coats of primer with rough sanding, and maybe first or second coat of enamel. I used Zap maminating epoxy on other prints and it's much harder work to smooth back than using the red oxide primer and it seems to "float better and settle a smoother surface so far" -maybe epoxy is more resilient though I don't know...
Not sure if this helps, you can obviously substitute paints for what's available locally but I do always prefer oil based to acrylic.

Hull done not perfect but acceptable for the purpose.
I also added a picture of the bottle I used for applying Plastic Magic.

It's mowing in the right direction, but it has not been fun, got hit hard on June 10th and is still today not up for much work, and has breathing problems as soon as I try to move quickly :-X
Mrs Tica is also out of action in the same manner.

Like the black and blue hull. is the superstructure staying that colour?

Not quit, exhaust, ladder and bollard (is that the correct term?) will be black, the 20l canisters will be yellow with red lids and the roof will be a a specific orange colour as used for highlighting the appearance of the tug.

A bit more progress, still not feeling that good :(( and can only work for a max of 3-4 hours a day, and maybe 20min of work on the boats >>:-(
Changed the colour scheme a bit, but think it looks great, hull has got 2 coats of satin clear coat, and the pilothouse is getting some touch up before satin clear coat.

It's Vallejo Flat Blue 70962 with a Satin acrylic varnish on top.
