There is a small booster that falls away once launched ( just to get the missile off the ship ) and it looks like instead of firing it exploded !!!

Yes the sea dart needs a solid rocket booster to get the ram jet upto speed. it falls away soon after launch. If the booster fails to fire and they need to get the missile off the ship. There is a smal tube fitted to the side of he launcher base in which a brave cap inserts a 3" rocket motor this is then fired remotely to ignite the solid booster.

Quite impressive, I should imagine the ships jimmy is upset over the damaged paintwork. Mind you the seadart is a pretty old weapon now and has been out of production for a very long time as are the ships that fire them are now geriatric to put it mildly.
