Definitely at Pompey, I expect some one will identify the flat top. After 1976, because Rollicker is now in RMAS colours.

Yes, the mast arrangement does seem to suggest that.

It's after 1981, thats when the Bustler was bulit

It must be HMS Bulwark, she was towed from Portsmouth on the 10th of April 1981 to the breakers, so if what capt jack says about Bustler is correct, it would fit. Albion was stricken in 1972........Smudge. :'( :'(

Bulwark wasnt towed to the breakers until after the 1982 Falklands war i'm afraid. There is a detailed report online on some of the Military Net sites that show the findings of the emergency inspection team that went through her to see if she could be rapidly put back to sea incase we lost a carrier. She was moved to a mooring before the war so thats maybe where the 1981 date comes from.

Bulwalk left Portsmouth on the 10 April 1981 for the scrapyard.

She was towed to Cairnryan for scrapping in 1981, but work did not start untill 17th April 1984. There was a plan to reactivate her in 82, but with the major fire and general deterioration it proved to be unworkable. This info came from a 'Rusty B' old boy, who is a bit of an anchor face, so it could be cosher.......Smudge O0

Bulwark was broken up in '84.

It is indeed the Bulwark being towed out of Portmouth bound for Cairn Ryan.  I was a junior officer on the Robust.  The Robust and Rollicker did a double headed tow around the south coast and up the North Sea.  Jerry Nicholls was the towing master who was my skipper on the Robust.  It was an uneventful tow accept that we missed the tide at Cairn Ryan and has to loiter off the Irish coast for about 11 hours to wait for the next one.  Albert Hannon, I think he was called, was a retired Admiralty Pilot who was contracted to pilot the whole shebang into harbour which he did, again without incident.  Fellow officers on the bridge of the Robust were Doug Turner and Jim Richmond.

Nice to see you on this site, as an old Admiralty Pilot and tugmaster we should all get some interesting info from you.
