Title: Pulley wheels for running rigging.
Post by: tigertiger on November 19, 2007, 01:08:30 PM
Does anybody know of a supplier of pulley wheels for running rigging?

I am not looking for pulley blocks but nylon wheels.

I am wanting to run continous loops below deck on scale sail models.

They are fairly easy to get hold of over here. Squires, Hobbies and SHG Marine for example.

Thanks for the speedy response Colin

I am not familiar with these outfits. I just tried googling and both Squires and Hobbies are too undefined.

Can you give me a bit more info please.

Hi TT if you are after low friction racing yacht type pulleys, PJ Sails stocks some French ones and a wander through suppliers in the MYA site may turn up others. Unfortunately the old adage you gets what you pays for applies - cheap they ain't !!

The Expo ones Dicky D suggests are good all rounders but when buying pulleys you need to decide whether you want them bushed with a grubscrew or push fit. Many of the ones commonly on sale are of the push fit variety. If you are using the pulleys to transmit a driving load then you need a good mechanical connection to the driveshaft. If it is just to be a free wheeling pully then the push fit types will be OK. You can open out the hole to whatever diameter you need.
