Hello all.
Just wondering if any of the OMRA or similar events have an electric section?
Living up here in the north east, all the councils seem very anti-noise. Places like Whitby, Staithes and all the other main sea venues that are easy to get to won't let IC be used. As for the in land area's like York and leeds, IC is also a complete No no.
I'd really like a fast, off-shore type boat, in both speed and style, but don't want to have to drive 75+ miles just to set it running, and will need lots of practise if I entered any events.
Thanks
Steve

Hello
I have been in OMRA for over a year. As far as I know they don't do electric. Most of there races are 20 or 30 min heats. I have yet to see a electric boat run at speed for this Length of time. OMRA do have a web site and all there contact details are on it. It may be worth an email to them so they can advise you what to do.
Cheers Bill.

OMRA don't do electric as all. The power is just not there. Having said that, there are quite a few clubs with various forms of fast electric but due to battery capacity etc, they tend to run short races using very light boats which is not what you want on the sea.
A good club for IC on your coast is Bridlington see
http://www.modelboatracing.co.uk/ (http://www.modelboatracing.co.uk/)
this site is run by Robert Daniel of said club.
They run a lot of multi but I'm sure would welcome an OMRA member.
As for the racing, well i'm afraid that whichever branch you choose, you are in for a driving hobby just to get to races.
Best wishes
Danny

dunno about the power not been there danny theres plenty of BIG boats in europe running elctric and they are faster than any gas boat too.
-
Thanks for all the info guys.
I will have a look into the Brid club, thanks for that Danny.
I would agree with MartNo1Fan though. A 20 cell Lipo pushing a big outrunner has as much if not more capacity and power than a small to medium sized petrol engine, and will happily last 20-30 minutes, as long as the ESC is properly cooled.

check this out mate :o might not last 30 mins but at that speed it would be finnished in half the time lol {-).not sure how omra runs its races is it a time thing or number of laps ?,the only problem i see with electric is your wallet size they are gonna cost 4 times maybe more what a petrol boat will.

Yea i think you have to email them for prices i know they no longer ship to the states because of splashers(people copying them) they arent cheap by all accounts,a friend of mine in the states has one reckons its the dogs nuts, does almost 70 mph with quad zens in it.Amazing boats thats for sure, deffinately something to put on the wish list for santa {-),theres also a nice guy in AUS who makes big cats and monos too Danny at SONIC RACING i know there is one over here in the uk ,he builds them himself and hes a very nice fella too ive had a few chats to him on another site about boats .

heres a nice pic of one of those hans peter boats from swiss powerboats its been built as the miss geico cat and looks absoloutely amazing im sure you will agree.cost 10 k$ to build and was clocked at 70 mph and capable of 80 mph apparently :o.i think dasboata(chris hoffman) had some involvement in this build as did raj(fellow brit) at xxx boatworks .theres a lot more pics here on Matts site have a look.

http://www.minioffshore.com/ make class one mini boats :) they are around 6k $ i think my dad said and can reach speeds of upto 100mph which is shocking, my dad was talkin to the guys about them out in dubai ( at the class one race just gone ) he said they looked great ;D but not elec though some nice brushless motors and so on would be ace
they are also made outa carbon F :)

I'm kind of tempted by the HPR from Swiss hulls

but looking at the video of the electric version, there seems to be very real issues with turning it's turning circle must be 15-20 meters, and not sure I want to pay that sort of money for a boat that is only good in straight lines.

Martin13 has, however, been forwarned to see if he can find an Australian freight exporter, as January bonus may make the proposition too tempting, unless I can find a better hull.
To the guys who asked about location.
I'm in York ( north east of UK ). I don't have issues with travelling to events and comp's, but before there is any point in competing, i'd need to put a lot of practise in first, and don't want to have to do a 100mile round trip every time I practise.
I have a feeling it wouldn't be a cheap boat. The motors are cheap enough these days, but the ESC will be horrific, and the battery packs ( guessing something like a 20S pack ) are fairly pricey too. On the flip side, the build itself should be really quick, as it's just a case of adding electrics. I might be optimistic here, but I'm guessing a week of evenings and it's on the water. Or am I being an optimistic loon?

Just been to measure 2.33 meters.
Can say for certain that I won't be getting an HPR! Wouldn't fit in my build room, let alone in the car.
Need to find something similar but around 1m long.
Or maybe one of the Deep V chappies that the OMRA lads use?
Steve
-
Steve,
You could always try one of these
Smaller
Ic or electric
Regards
Simon

I read a review on some Ozzy site ( which I can't find now ) saying that one fitted out with 4xCMB engines and all sorts of swanky bits came in at about £12,000. :-\ :-\
-
eek thats well over priced!!!! the minioffshore site i posted (after talkin to me dad ) is 6k Euros... ready built with IC zenoah 2.6 motors and even painted for only 6k O0
so basicly rtr
-
How about this for a beutiful cat. A bit pricy from what i understand!
-
i think i know whos cat that is O0 or should i say i know a guy who has one with inline zenoahs. ;D
-
Hello stranger, been hiding?
They are not inline, built by Bonzi from the ground up for another chap called Simon!
-
Not hiding i got banned as you know {-) Simon Miller is it? ,yea hes running twins from bonzi bx 4 mods i think.Very nice boat and fast,i asume they are counter rotating ,i believe he had the boat built by bonzi for him but the hulls from mhz.Def a great boat but having it built for you kinda takes the fun out of it for me but thats just me i enjoy the building part. There is one arround with inlines in it somewhere i think.By the way did you get your motor modded yet? what speed you getting from your appache err makara ;),my boats running pretty well now, hope to get some more from it when i get more time to run it and adjust a few things.Just bought a new radio set for it ,a futaba 6ex fasst system should have it next week O0.
