        ...Hi Guys...

Another Topic going way off coarse...

Its all your fault Colin...Back To The Subject...

Does anyone have a propeller that would suit this project...We are looking for items to complete the sub...Come On Prop Shop...Sponsor us a Prop...

Also, We are looking for a suitable Road Trailer to transport the sub around to other clubs regattas etc...So if you, Or someone you know might want to Donate/Sponsor a trailer that can be used for this, Please Get In Touch...

Now for the Paint...Whats the phone number for The Royal Navy Stores...

As my Late Mother used to say..." You Don,t Get    If You Don,t Ask"...

   ...Hi Bigford...

We dont have an exact wieght as yet, But we needed 4 men to lift it on & off the cradle at the club yesterday...We Beleive it needs no Ballast to sit on its Waterline Marks...

It is the Original Test Tank Model for this type of Submarine...Bring on the "General Belgrano" for a Battle Re-Enactment...

It is our intentions to complete the Submaine with Surface Running Gear & Road Trailer So it can then be used to visit other clubs Regattas & other related Events throughout the United Kingdom...

Hi Norry

Just a thought.

If you cannot get a 'scale' prop, then could you use a prop off a small outboard motor (1:1 scale) or other boat of about 9ft long.

It won't be the correct number of blades etc for scale, but it would be big enough and may be a lot cheaper option.

Like I say, just a thought.

      ...Hi tigertiger...

We have had that thought as well...a 4 bladed prop from a Brittish Seagull engine would probably be as close to scale...But we are open to suggestions & offers of parts...
All thoughts & Ideas are in the think tank at present & we will make decisions on what where & when we see whats available to us..

Do it right Norry, cut a hatch in it for Wee johnny to crew it {-)   What scale is it anyway ?   We`ve got the makings of a South Atlantic Task Force with my RO5 and your sub.  Props; how about two three bladers off a 5hp Merc or Mariner spliced together. They are "curvey" blades  and could be re-profiled to near-scale 6 blade scimitar shape.  I think most Seagulls had flat square-ish blades.  Good find that, as good as my big yin.

      ...Hi arrow5...

There are hatches in the hull already Duncan...One of our main jobs is to refit & reseal them...

I dont know what Scale it is as I dont know the sizes of the real  HMS "CONQUERER"...And anyway i dont have a brain near smart enough to work it out...Its 14 feet Long...Someone else could maybe work it out for us...

How do you think this one would look in Loch Insch...If its available I will bring it up to the Springer Meet...The Loch Insch Monster...

 ...Best Regards...Norry...

Right you are for Loch Insh. I`ll get RO5 out of hibernation. Johnny in front hatch and Strong tug(s) pulling,  cameras rolling......ready when you are , Mr DeMille ! Sub must be about 1/12th at a guess.

HMS Conquerer is 285 ft long so at 14 ft (+ the prop ?) that makes it 1/20th doesn't it ?

Don B.

BTW - where will the towing bollards go ?

Thats one for when we get a set of plans for it...

The Towing Bits will probably be Screw ons for when its being towed & plugs in the holes when its on Surface Patrol...

Duncan, The Lads are asking me about RO5...Any chance of a picture of it...

Oh yes FTF, The first one, multi blades, number not too important . A bit of artistic filing and that would be convincing.

Hello Norry, many many years ago I used to deal with Frank Langnes who had his own propellor business in Buckie. He'd  renovate  / make for an size of vessel mainly fishing boats but there were other things too. I checked on Yell.com and the business is still listed

F.A.L Scottish Propeller Service
3, March Rd West, Buckie, Banffshire AB56 4BU
Tel: 01542 832185

You might like to give him a call. He probably won't remember me as it was a very long time ago!

cheers

Jim

I could follow that up as I`m a bit closer to Buckie. There is a very strong model boat club there too. Anybody in contact the Tarlair club. Well remembered Jim.

A little bit of interest to say the least from the RC Sub guys , is there any way of getting hull lines taken off as getting accurate plans of ANY SSN is like finding Hens teeth !!!
Title: Re: The Jocks New Tows...
Post by: norry on January 22, 2008, 11:17:04 am
    ...Hi Davie...

I dont think we will need lines as we have enough hull to go round everyone...

I would suggest a General Arrangement type plan would be suitable...Its so we can see what bits we need to make/steal/mooch/borrow/ or dare I say it, buy, and then fit them to the correct part of the hull...

...Best Regards...Norry...

What I mean Bob was is there any way someone could try and draft the lines onto paper from the hull ?? As for the fore-planes , rear planes and rudders and all of the details i'm sure someone on the Subpirates board would be willing to do a swap of scaled up drawings for you to finish off the hull.

The Belgrano article was in MMI July, August and September. Built to a scale of 1:50 giving a model a little over 12ft.

Thanks Norry and Dougal. Only 12ft and 1/50th...pity I was hoping it was a decent size , like 1/24th or so.  It would have nice if it had matched the Invincible. Dont bother posting Norry, bring them with you to Loch Insh, Thanks all. Duncan
