No problems with Royal Mail, apart from being woken up by the delivery man.
More pictures will follow when I've some progress to report.
It's going to have a Schottel drive like Stravo's. It might have the top from my leaky first springer, which is in the manner of a British Waterways Bantam tug.
BUT, It might have something better quality, to match the hull.
-
...Hi Guys...
Does that last sentence mean that you are happy with your haggis...
As for the Post Office damaging it...They would have to go some to get through the Norry Packaging....Remember If they cant get in...Then Wee Johnny cant get out...
...Best Regards...Norry...

Oh dear... >>:-(
I would of thought it needed something MUCH better considering the quality of the haggis... sorry, hull..

A few more pictures.
First the Schottel drive is mounted on plasticard base, together with the motor, servo, ESC. This was made up while waiting fot h hull to arrive.
The unit was then mounted into the hull, bedded with P38, and held with a couple of nuts and bolts.
The deck is made from ply with the centre hatch cut out. The hatch is bolted down with four screws with the nuts glued on the underside.
On top of this deck is glued the plasticard deck which covers the whole of the topside. The front two inches are glued to the fixed deck and not removeable. The cabin is made from 2mm plasticard as well, and fitted inside the L angle plastistuct. At the moment I'm not sure whether to make this removeable or fixed, most like removeable.
The design is based on a card model of the London Canal museums Bantam, although i think it will be painted in BWB blue colour scheme
Next step is a bit of filling and rubbing down and painting.

A couple more pictures

A couple of better pictures.
Painted blue and black now. Tried in the garden pond but got weeded up. so back to the kitchen whilst the wifes out.
How is the water line? I think she a bit high in the water. It has a 6 volt 12amp/her battery in it. And a bit of water :(
Do you like the on/off switch on top of the forward sampson post?
-
Did you run it in the kitchen sink? If so, how long did it take to mop up? O0
Looks good

... Hi Guys...
Its Looking Good Frankie Boy...
Have you got a name for it yet...I suggest "THE FLYING HAGGIS" After All it was born in Scotland...
If I come down to the Mayhem Weekend I will have to bring plenty of Whisky to christen all my Surrogate Hagi Springers with...( In case you dont know, Hagi is the plural of Haggis)...Scottish Lessons over for the day...
...All The Best...Norry...

WHEW, got rid of the hearse-like all black scheme, good much nicer. How about some dull red anti-fouling from waterline down ? Handy reference point for trimming. Maybe a bit of protection for the drive unit , say a tiny skeg with a strip of brass or alloy to take the knocks ? Looks like your test was done in an aquarium, minced fish? :embarrassed: :'(
-
Aye Norry aw that blue jist crying oot fur a Saltire. Ae no ? ::) If he comes to Loch Insh he can dine in the local restuarant "The Happy Haggis".
-
It's in a plastic under bed storage box, £6 for two from Morrisons, usually keep my modeling bits and pieces in it.
The original black cabin was unpainted black plasticard.
How far down from the deck is the waterline, usually?
Most canal boats don't seem to paint the topside differently from the underwater part.
-
Waterline on "Maid`o Irn" is 1 & 3/8th" from deck,( most of the time >:( )
-
First outing today.
I think it goes a bit better with the conventional prop, compared to the kort type and Kort rudder.
The conventional one is a bit bigger diameter.
Took in some water , but not finnished the sealing yet.
Sorry no action pictures.
-
Well it's all change here at FTF central, I've removed the Schottel drive and gone with standard arrangement, propshaft and rudder.
I decided the Schottel was too delicate, just a bit of knock and the lower gear box became detached.
It's going to have two 6v/4amp batteries one either side of the motor instead of the 6v/12 amp, plus some lead.
Only tried it the horticultural test tank (garden pond) so far. With a 50mm prop she seemed nippier than before.
-
Rough day on the pond this morning
Seems to perform OK.
-
...Hi Funtimefrankie...
Certainly looks like she can cope with a bit of dirty weather...
She,s Looking Good Frankie Boy...

FTF, bet you`re glad you put that high bulwark on there, and you are "footy legal" with standard drive . Dont they ride the waves well for a Tupperware boat ? Does the motor get a bit hot on a 50mm prop ? I`ve found 38mm best, cut down a 40mm. Plus watercooling.
-
I think it's legal :police:
It's actually running on a 40mm 3 blade prop, plastic. Not sure if it got hot, didn't open it up unil I got home.
Only ran it or ten minutes ..too cold for much longer, and SWMBO was waiting in the car. :(
Also I fount that I had the wrong lump of lead ballast in so it was listing to starboard.
-
wow thats quite a dramatic change from the original!!!
Good to see its working well for you!
-
Just got an underwater proof digital camera so I hope to get some onboard video action shots.
Can avi files be uploaded here?
