What's the oldest working model boat on Mayhem?

1. That you've built?

2. That someone else built but is still sea worthy?

Mine is both those things. The hull was carved by my great granddad, circa 1890 - 1900. It had many lives, I'm told it was even a schooner at one time.
I rebuilt it when I was a lad in the 1960s as a Pereja, a Spanish fishing boat, complete with home made single channel radio and a Kinematic actuator. ( still got them) As it was the first scaleish boat I built and the hull has been in the family so long I've never felt like getting rid of it. I still sail it occasionally, but it steers like a pig, well, that's my excuse.

Anglian Trawler, from Hobbies free plan built in 1957 by my father and a A2 Yacht built, again by Dad, around the same time. Both bread and butter construction.

Trawler not readily convertible to RC so sits in the railway room. Yacht on my 'to do' list to convert to RC.

I'm throwing this one in the pot although it's not actually a model boat.. but it did end up in a stream once...I have a model aeroplane built by my friend around 1975-76... 5 foot low wing monoplane,4ch, Merco 49 powered and it still flies! It looks a bit worse for wear now.

I have a commercially built 1930's clockwork model, I was working on models in the garage, this old bloke walked passed and said I have an old boat at home, I've just got it out of the loft and was going to take it to the tip, do you want it? Of course I accepted his offer, He went home, picked it up, brought it around to my house and gave it to me. He was asked what he wanted for it, he said nothing as he was throwing it away. I have not seen the old guy since.

Can't compete with the boats from the 30's, but my oldest model was given to me by my Grandmother in the early 60's. It's a tug called Dawn and I think it was made by Triang. It had plenty of floats in the bath and even some outings on one of the smaller ponds at Hove Lagoon. I gave it some TLC a few years back and let some oil soak right through the mechanism. She still purrs away - just tried it! I also replaced the missing mast, lifeboat davit and towing horse.

I only found out last year that she was actually based on a real tug from the Clyde called Flying Dipper.

Just taken these couple of photos and got the son in law (wizz kid) to put them on the site. He rattles through it so quickly I am still none the wiser about putting them on myself.

This little chap was an Ebay purchase about 18 months ago or so.

The earliest reference that was supplied with it was that it was bought from a Church Jumble sale in Whitby in the 1930's.

It has been restored but I would like to do a couple more bits to it to be a bit more sympathetic to it's age.  It doesn't sail particularly well until the wind picks up then she looks pretty good with the sails full.

I believe it is a Gaff Rigged Sloop, going back to the definitions thread, but it was on sale as a Ketch!!

a very old hull I bought off ebay thats meant to be the Titanic

its not at all seaworth, let alone landworthy!

I have no idea how old it is but its certainly at the very most pre war.

I know its all about the working boats but I thought I'd share.  :)

it really is the biggest wreck

I'm going to fibreglass the outside of the hull to keep it all together!
