Title: Sonar scan of wreck
Post by: Pointy on February 16, 2008, 07:40:42 pm
Just can't believe how detailed this sonar image is.
Had no idea that they had found this ship either.
Can you work out what ship it is....?

It certainly looks like it, especially as the recent book says that the bow broke off when she went down. Certainly amazing detail. What will they find next I wonder?

Oh well!

is it a US carrier as part of the flight deck is missing and most of theirs were wooden in WW2?

DickyD is spot on (please give your gorgeous German Shepard an ear-rub from me), wreck found in 2006, her actual sinking is something of a mystery as there are different versions of what happend to her. Most likely one is that the Russians used it to test weapons.

Another German ship with a mystery ending is this one:

Thought she'd been scrapped!

Didn't mean to start another name that ship thread, just wanted to talk about this as I'm in shock at seeing an intact German aircraft carrier!
