Title: Jecobin Plans
Post by: Welsh_Druid on February 27, 2008, 12:53:29 pm
I wanted a set of plans for a new project and went to the Jecobin website to order them.  I was surprised that the only way to order was to register with them  first.

OK I was not too bothered about that, but when I did so I found that I could not register unless I entered my date of birth ! This is a MANDATORY field to be filled in.

Just what business is it of theirs as to what my date of birth is ?

Thats a sale they have lost.

At a guess

This is so you can be dropped into a demographic for a mailing list.
Publishers seem to love to do this.

This is sometimes used to target thier own internal mailing, and sometimes mailing lists are sold on.

But the worst offenders for selling mailing lists are Bank's, even Inland Revenue wanted to do it.

What I do is register an age of 90 (or thier highest bracket), occupation retired, income (lowest bracket, usually less thtn 15000 per year).

i have never had any spam or junk mail, not even for Polygrip. ;)
