Considering it is now 45 years since the US Navy did landing and take off trials aboard the USS Forrestal this is seriously under consideration. Would make an interesting model too

Forget the ship for a minute. Look at the deck hangar/shelter. Immediately after the Falklands thing the RFA took over a Harrison Line container ship and re-named it RFA Reliant. This ship operated as a sort of aircraft carrier for a few years. But my point of interest is that she employed a "new" system of making a ship an instant aircraft carrier. An American system code named "Arapaho", which was basically a bunch of containers/Portacabins equipped to operate/maintain/house personnel etc. cheaply and quickly. I think it worked given the time it took to "convert". Perhaps the system is being re-introduced by the USN. A Damn sight cheaper than the monstrosities being proposed. BY.

In about 1993 I saw a video showing the development of a trimaran in Haslar Test Tank.
The RN were looking into this configuration for future warship design.
The tests were so successful that MoD had a 1/3 ship built. RV Triton. As ever we ran short of development funding but the US Navy invested in most of the electronic sensors and measuring equipment within the hulls.
The RMAS were originally going to man her, but this went to Serco in the end.
She spent 2 yrs Storm Chasing and the Dara collected.
She was then sold off and is now a "Daddies Yacht" minus the sensors of course.
I am just wondering if this is an outcome of all that data

The Triton is down in Australia I think as an OPV ( i'll check and correct if i'm wrong ) and I wouldn't be surprised at all if this design has come out of the Triton project

OK confirmed that Triton is now working as a Customs vessel for Australia ( still owned by Guardline though )
