Greetings All

I too am after plans and hints on building a winch. I have a couple of smaller cast ones but have seen some nicely made winches in photos. Hints of how you made yours would be helpful.

Thanks, Martin

I've not run accross these sites before.

I'll have to search for photos/plans of the actual winch.

I've been looking at the Tamiya gearbox kits as well for operating - its the actual unit I'm puzzled about.

The Model tug that i have just sold had a dummy winch on the deck...From Mobile Marine Models...
I then installed a working winch under the deck & passed the tow line over the dummy winch drum then through a towing eye...The rope on the dummy winch drum was the same as the towrope but the end was glued down.
When the rope was pulled in & out it made the dummy winch drum turn giving the impression that it was working...
The working winch under the deck was made from an old 6 volt  battery powered screwdriver run on 2.4 volts to slow it down...You could have the winch paying out on 2.4 volts and retreiving on 3.6 or 4.8 to give it more power....
I used a servo with switch gear & 2 seperate batteries to operate the system....

I hope this helps some of you to solve the problem...

I am now toying with the idea of fitting a small multiplier fishing reel with a motor on a worm drive...
This idea is still in its infancy & i will inform you all of the progress...

P.S. dont go using your good screwdriver...I picked an old one up at a car boot sale for a quid..

                                    Regards...Norry....

HI. I HAVE THE ROBBIE ODIN, AND THE WINCH IS 1-24TH SCALE, IT HAS ITS OWN MOTOR TO POWER IT. A GEARBOX IS AVAILABLE BY ROBBIE SO THAT IT CAN BE 50% IN 100% OUT, SLOW AND FAST GEARS
