There was I, loading some boats into the car boot for the local easter show. Already had a drifter and two springers loaded, went to get my Riva (which won best in show last year), came out of the garage and I dropped it! :'( Dunno how I managed it, but it wasnt difficult!
Damage? - redesigned rudders, bent and buckled windscreen and a couple of scuffs, one has splintered the wood.
On the plus side, none of the planks sprung.

Ouch, that hurts just looking at the pics.

Now that is a shame......Don't leave it though, get it on the workbench and restore it to its former glory. She is definitley worth it.

Modeller's worst nightmare! I made an old model liner once, fell off the display stand and all three masts snapped. Still, us modellers can mend ANYTHING!
Colin

She WILL be repaired!

Be careful with a "Riva", I have a grandson named "Riva Inigo"!

Definitely NOT to be dropped Roger :o

My sympathies, Ian. What a shock.
Best of luck with the rebuild. O0

Sorry to see that my friend, it's soul destroying to have an accident like that.
Well your not the first, and sadly you wont be the last, anyway it looks to be all repairable. No consolation I know,
Good luck with the repairs.................Macy. :'(

that's a lovely boat. Did you build it from plans?
-
Thank you, yes its scratch built from plans from marine modeller. I'm afraid I dont have them anymore.
Ian
-
How did you find the plans? Where they easy to follow?
-
The plans were very basic, just a lines diagram really. I wouldnt recommend them for someone without scratch build experience.

Well, after 6 years I finally got around to repairing the Riva.
She was rubbed back to bare wood and had 10 coats of Le Tonq varnish applied!
Two 850 motors have been installed and she is ready for the water - when the weather allows!

Ian
That is beautiful. Just beautiful. Hope your weather calms down soon.

Nother few days and you'll be able to sail it non stop down to Brighton. :-)) Beautiful finish, can't imagine a Riva looking any other.
Regards Ian.

Magnificent ........... Not a lot else I can say. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))

Sir
Would you be so kind as to leave that to me in your will {-)
-
Good to see you haven't lost your touch - a joy to behold!
Mike

Beautiful job Ian. :-)) :-))
I guess it must have taken you almost as long to clean 6 year's dust off as it did to put 10 coats of varnish on the boat! {-) {-) {-)
I have to admit I did drool a little over your varnish work - sorry for the mess, it'll wipe off.

Dust? Now that was a real issue. No matter what I tried I couldn't eliminate those little dust b.....s floating around.
In the end I compromised with a bucket of water in the workshop, along with all surfaces covered over for 24hrs prior to varnishing and a botched up booth that allowed me to cover the boat after varnishing.
Despite all that I still got a few of those little dust devils on the varnish, but, without a proper dust free environment I doubt I could have got better.
Thanks for the comments guys!

Wonderful!
How did you Chrome the brass parts?
-
The brass parts, except the windshield, are painted with Alclad chrome paint airbrushed on. The windshield was sprayed as well, but, when handled for fitting the clear plexiglass, the paint came off despite the bare brass being cleaned, sprayed with etching primer, undercoat and topcoat.
So, in the end I used sticky-back chrome paper on it, came out ok.

Hmmm, interesting! What brand sticky back chrome.

Today I ran the Riva.
Originally it was on two 850 motors, but there just wasnt the speed, so, I went brushless and fitted two 900kv outrunners running on 4s.
It goes brilliantly. Video here:
