Title: GRP Deck repair
Post by: nharvey on March 23, 2008, 09:38:59 pm
Anyone advise the best method for repairing an area of damaged deck ?  A small area looks like gel coat and paint layers removed.

what products are available.

Probably ordinary easy sand car body filler will do the job if there isn't an actual hole that needs reinforcing. Then repaint.

Neil, depending on how big is the area you want to repair and do you have any accesss from the inside?
If it is (i.e.) the double size of a Pound-Coin and you have access from the inside then cut it out, and place a thick tape (like used for strong parcels) over the area. Make sure that it fits perfect and follows the curvature of the deck (if there is some). Then take Epoxy-resin and fibreglass and place it from the inside carefully onto the tape. Let it harden and then take off the tape. As the Epoxy will not glue on the adhesive-side of the tape it will fill out the gap and you have a smooth surface and a plaster which fits perfect.

If you don`t have access from the inside, then use 2-K Body filler, will do a good job as well if the underground is prepared correctly.

Hope that was out of any help.
