Tiger, I must give you props on your new AND IMPROVED version of the MJW. I got the kit with like intentions and I would be deeply in your debt if you could school me on the topsails and their attachment to the masts and such...I am new to the forum and I must say your build had a large part in my joining. I have so far enjoyed an hour and a half looking stuff up on the site and I've only scratched the surface. Any other enthusiasts in Sacramento?
Anyhow Tiger, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Here is the method I used.
The sail pattern itself was made to fit between the masts, and gaff booms. The position of the foot of the sail was guessed. I looked at many model schooners and video from the Gloucester races on Youtube. And a shipsim model of a schooner. There appears to be no definiitive style/pattern used for topsails.

Wow. just stumbled upon this.. its gonna be very helpful when I get to rigging. I'm planning on only one topsail.. the Main.. I like the look of a boat with this plan I saw on youtube. "Dad's schooner" These plans are far better than any reference I have stumbled upon. If you have the time, a similar episode about the fo' sail would be an amazing help, as i have spent a couple hours squinting at the photos you already provided and drooling..

Hey there buddy. I'm getting ready to rig my foresails, and wanted to see if you knew any good resources (besides yourself of course) with good pictures of how the sheets are arranged on schooners with three fore sails. Here is a pic i grabbed off the web that i like.. I love the tall flying third fo' sails..

The only sources I found were to look at actual pictures as well.
There is a book An Introduction to Radio Controlled Scale Sailing Models by Phillip Vaughan Williams https://shop.traplet.com/product.aspx?c=297 available from traplet.
This will also give you an idea of how the flying headsails can be rigged/controlled.
The other scale sailing models book on traplet https://shop.traplet.com/product.aspx?c=293 is OK but not as good. It seems to be a translation of a German book. There is some overlap the Vaughan Williams book, but does have additional useful info.
Go on you tube and search for schooners and Gloucester races. You can find real schooners, a ShipSim computer generated schooner, and some models.

Wow! Thanks for the info I have been busy with the buying of a new house and the renting of an old one. I just saw your post today and I really need to get on that build.....the info and pics are a treasure trove of info! Hope all is well with you and you are getiing a good bit of rudder time.
