David - superb workmanship as usual and all the technical installation etc. is intriguing. This is going to be a fantastic model once finished.
As regards the sander I'm ahead of you there! I bought one and a narrow belt sander sometime ago but they were gathering dust (instead of making it!) until I started on my Fisherman build where it was great for the initial sanding of the hull.

Thanks Ray,
The hinges have been fitted to one of the doors, they look a bit over size, but they need to be to take the amount of work they will do. Now just got to figure out how to get them working. The bottom half will have to open first then the top section. The top sections easy as the Mission bay crane will be used to open it. |

Thanks Martin, that is indeed the beast! I called it Scimitar as a nod to the Lesro models that inspired the design, namely Stiletto and Rapier.
As regards the models that Bob/Zooma mentions these were a result of a requirement of him and Will/MadWelshman wanting plans for the Stiletto or Rapier which then morphed into one sized midway between (about 34") and then with more modern superstructures and changes to the stern. It will be great to see you building one Bob. I really like the hull and it was an easy choice to then adapt it for the water-jet project which will be my first non-Fairey build! To be fair Bob the reduced posting isn't about the format of the site (though I do have to reduce image size to be able to post them) but as has been discussed before the reduction is mainly due to the age of members and the lack of new blood into the hobby which has resulted in reduced traffic on all model boat forums over the last few years. One that has been hit particularly hard is the Model Boats Magazine forum which also has ongoing issues with those using Android devices which makes it difficult for new and existing members to access it and if they can, like me, find that posts aren't updating. So I can only acees using my PC which I can't do when away from home. Chris |

Spot on Alan J, we use 2mm thick walled tubing on Huco brass inserts and they work a treat. The motors you suggest will work fine with 2mm wall tubing.
We have been using them for several years now I suggest you treat the lengths of tubing to hot water first and they will relax and if fitted when still hot and then run they will take up a straight shape. Nice and quiet as well as vibration free. Buy a metre! Roy |

I use LED's for nav lights in my stand off look alike models like the Sea Rider and free plan hms romper with the leds wired in series, appropiate resister running off a 9volt battery.
Paint masks off the unwanted light. They looked great when the model the as on the water and really aided orientation in the dark. |

Yes, silicon glow fuel tubing works well on 540 size motor shafts and smaller motors like cassette players.
A bit of tube within a tube for smaller diameter motor shafts. This technique was used on walking pace models with great success even onotors with short stubby motor shafts but the longer the motor shaft the better. Not used this technique on high load/torque systems yet, the tube coupling may want to "wind up"... Following this thread with interest... |

Thanks Martin.
Thanks Ray. I should read it through from the start as well, to see how many lame excuses I've come up with for stringing the build out for so long. |

This project appears to be interesting, ambitious and promising to build, Chris. ![]() ![]() I am looking forward to your each step leading to a successful sailing on the water.! ![]() In my case,I was a bit troubled by water soakage around the pump unit bases at high speed in my experimental project using a pla-model boat kit. However, final result was satisfactory. ![]() ![]() Pic1; full throttle test Attention to nearly liner line of cooling water and the same in pic2 on both sides By the way, what is Scimitar water-jet?? Hi Alan, Push fit should do, a 'dob' of silicon or RTV gasket if they slip. ![]() |
