HMNZS Kiwi
« on: July 06, 2012, 08:49:26 am »

Does anyone have any idea where I could get plans for HMNZS KIWI (T102). She was a Bird class minesweeper built in Scotland by Robb in 1941.
Thanks
Steve

The NZ Navy Museum may have something - unfortunately there is no way of telling from their website.
But (!!) check out this link and hover your mouse over the image on the bottom left: http://www.navymuseum.co.nz/collections/plans,-maps-and-charts

Built in Scotland, try Glasgow University or Strathclyde University. There are archives of Clyde built ships in one of them.

Thanks guys,
Dicky D, Raaartygunner, Norseman – The Australian bird class boat aren't the same as the NZ ones – smaller, Different hull shape, flat stern, different superstructure, but thanks.
Derek – that's the one. What book is the drawing from? Any chance of a scanned copy?
The NZ Bird class boats were based on the HMS Basset and Mastiff only larger, does anyone have plans for those?
Norseman – Johno's dad was part of NZ naval legend. Check out the story of the i-1.
Thanks
Steve

I was in the NZ Navy museum at Devonport, Auckland, recently.

They have the gun from the submarine i1 there. A superb museum.

I was interested in the Pearl class cruiser Philomel, after which the Auckland Naval Base is still named. I was put in touch with a curator who emailed the full set of Philomel's plans to me!

Please contact me if you would like the contact details - it would not be polite to publish them on a public forum.

If you click on original size photo, once its loaded onto the screen there is an option to download this image. Just did it, so any difficulties, pm me and I can forward it on.

Hello Steve,
I have been researching Kiwi and if you like to give me your Email Address I can send you photographs of the ship and of a model. Still no plans unfortunately.

Cheers Gary
