Schnellboot S130 by Robbe 1:40
« on: April 13, 2025, 09:53:11 am »

Hello,

I just finished building the model based on a 15year vintage kit.

We had the first testrun a few days ago and it fulfills all the hopes:
It reaches a little bit more than the required scale-speed and the "Lürssen-effect" works well.
The model was flagged as for the first MI6 operation in the baltic sea after WWII.

The video is a summary of the first test:

Hi Hans,
You did a stunningly good job on your boat not only scale appearance but also scale sailing behavior.!!! :-)) :-))
The boat looked to be able to run far and away faster than in the video in reality. :embarrassed:
In this sense, the pond may be a bit narrow for the boat capability...??
I have felt so sorry for you about the terrible crash against the shore in the end of the video.....Whats' the matter with her..??
Looking forward to seeing again another sailing video after the repairs.!! O0 :-))

Hallo Kiyo,

thank you for your response.
Yes, the pond is somewhat narrow, but perfect for a first test.
What was the matter? >> having set the throttle to non-self-centering and chatting with my wife >> boom.
The repair is underway.

Best regards

The Robbe Schnellboat runs well  and looks good on the water, pity the hull is so poor fitting when building. One thing to watch out for is the shafts are not very strong if you have the original 2mm ones. There is quite a distance between the motor and the end of the shaft tube leaving a lot of the shaft unsupported. On the last run of mine I ended up with a bent shaft  where it left the shaft tube, the motor end just pulled out of the rubber tube coupling.

Hallo Jim,

you are right, fitting the hull to the decks was not so simple; today I know that they saved material thickness in order to reach a decent weight.
Same logic applies to the shafts, which are flimsy, also in order to save weight.
On the outer shafts I have enlarge the back supports between hull and shafts.
On the inside I glue the shafts in place over a longer distance as per instructions.
I hope this will stabilize the shaft.

But it will stay a bit borderline design.

Best regrads
