Greetings Everyone,
During the school holiday's in August SMBC will be offering "Have a go at sailing an RC boat"
for accompanied children (with an adult) on each Wednesday between 10am and 12pm during August.

We have a number of small Tugs and Lifeboats that will be available for any interested youngsters to have a go with. We did this on  a couple of days last season and it proved to be very popular especially with parents and children who were visiting the pond just to watch the boats sailing. If you are in the area feel free to come along.
                               Thanks for looking.
                                   Kind Regards,
                                         Pete.Farrell.
                                             SMBC Vice Chairman.

greatidea to involve the younger kids........they are a disappearing bread where model boating  is becoming an old mans hobby more and more, and once we old farts have kicked it......the hobby will dye  off quickly.

I wish more clubs would initiate this into the holidays and regattas that are held.

I remember40 odd years ago when i held the vice comodor possition and chair at Fleetwoods scale section we tried this action for kids, and there was a concensus of NO's from the older members not to do this, and appart from a skeleton few nowadays, the membership is so low that you can count members who go to a day sailing is poor indeed.

Apathy is a killer of this hobby.

Up here in Dundee while we may lose our older members occasionally we keep on getting younger replacements so our club numbers stay healthy. It's not that often that we get children interested but most of our new members come from people that have reached a stage where they have enough free time to get involved in a hobby and have enough spare money that they can afford to buy things. We have a small but thriving group of members with 3D printers who are now printing their models. It helps that we sail on an easily accessible public pond where the public can see us sailing every Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evenings.
