1/6th Scale Mersey Lifeboat
gribeauval:
Hi all, its great to have this super dooper all singing/dancing forum, thanks Martin!! ;)
Here is a short video clip of the quarter chain release mechanisms now fitted to my big scale Mersey Lifeboat, as seen on modelboatmayhem.co.uk !! On the real boat these chains are released at launch by four of the crew hitting the release arms with a 4lb club hammer, not readily available in scale boats. The servo used is a retract servo pushing four bowden cables to tip the chain fittings. This then will allow the launch of the Mersey from its carriage ( in theory!!!!!!!).
I will send the build updates to Martin to post on mayhem as usual.

Great to see some working features on a large model.
All looks very efficient, does it ever get caught up?

At the moment the system has workrd every time it has been tested ( touch wood ::)!!!!!)
If you like working features here is a short video of the Talus tractor that will pull the boat/carriage. The tractor is under "wire control" at the moment ( cann't afford the radio yet!!) and the legs belong to my tennage son who is going to the the driver on launches but is a crap driver at the moment!! :P The tractor incorporates working lights, remote tow hook release, working recovery winch and independant track control.

:D :D
I liked the little bit of persuasion with the left foot. Mr Freemantle probably would have something to say about that!! ;D
Mind you, when I was on the crew of the Mersey at our local station, I watched ours slide on ice on a recovery. Scared the driver out of the tractor. He wasn't that long in the job and thought he was the bees-knees until that happened.
The RNLI then decided to install 2 sunken anchor points. One in the actual boat house and the other outside the house. If needed, (if I remember correctly) the winch wire was passed under the tractor and attached to the anchor point so that the tractor could use the power of the tractor to pull the carriage up the slip and at the same time use the power of the winch to stop it sliding about. I think there is also another wire that can be attached to the tractor and to the anchor point at the door to stop the tractor being pulled over the edge of the slip if doing a topside recovery.
Declan.

Ah, the time-honoured engineering practice of kicking it to make it work!!
Done that several times to the aircraft in my profile photo..........only got kicked back once!!
