Motor / drive-line - wealth of experience
« on: September 30, 2006, 01:46:38 pm »

Recently there has been lots of posts regarding motors, suitability, drive-lines, battery packs etc.

As i have posted before - the amount of experience etc is overwelming with the members on this forum.

This is where a list of combinations will help - i propose

A list of the driveline combinations giving the following:- TX - Rx - ESC - servo's - Motor - coupling - proptube - prop, which have been fitted into size - make of models etc, some may find that changing the drive on their boats will improve the running and knowing what combinations have been done may help, just a thought (well it may solve the problems i have on these little boats i have :D).

If you're going to do a list, Colin Bishop is your man, he's an expert on relational databases.

Cheek Malc!

However I don't mind compiling a list if people want to send me details of what's worked for them. From previous posts and those on the old MB site it is clear that Warspite is right, there are many people who would like some pragmatic suggestions for which combinations work and which don't. If there is support for the idea I will draw up some guidelines.

That will be some spreadsheet, there are several ways to power a model.
High revs, small pitch, low revs larger pitch, etc.

the list does not have to be that extensive if it gets complicated, the number of smit nederland etc out there using very similar drive trains could be condensed into the top two or three best layouts depending on ease/transmitted power ratios etc, someone may discover that there boat has a smaller motor than every one else and does not pull as well as it should, but then finds out that by replacing it with a motor similar to everyone else, his power usage drops and it moves fast etc.

As before, the experience is out there, but the questions about the same problem keeps coming up, just a thought

In practice I doubt if there would be a huge number of responses but there may be enough to give a good indication of what works for various types and sizes of boats.

Lots of Imaras out there with Deccaperms in. YUK
Powers the model nicely, but that g/box whine makes her sound like a gas turbine, not steam recip.
