Wonderful inventions, roundabouts, designed to keep the traffic flowing freely, so why do the highways idiots put traffic lights on them and stuff them up?? Now, I can to some degree understand that at really busy peak times on certain roundabouts, local conditions tend to favour certain roads and the others can suffer so I will concede that there is some point in installing them for peak conditions. But they leave the traffic lights operational 24 hours a day so whats the ruddy point in being stopped in the early hours of the morning by a set of lights on a roundabout? A simple timeswitch is all it takes and everyone is happy.
Just think of the amount of fuel being burnt up by idling engines waiting at dumb traffic lights up and down the length and the breadth of the country on roundabouts at any one time.
I think the carbon footprint of the motorist could be greatly reduced for the sake of a tuppeney ha'penny switch here and there. No wonder the oil companies have just announced record quarterly profits today!
Anyway, roundabouts....... wonderful inventions....if they leave them alone!
Cor, that feels better!
