Heat resistant general purpose glue (not CA)
« on: May 23, 2008, 01:06:56 pm »

I am looking for a heat resistant glue (not CA).

I want to use it on plastics (including PVC and nylon) so CA is often not a good choice.
Hot melt glue is not suitalble for many plastics and has volume, so not good in all places.
Solvent based glues, and double sided tape melt (become fluid) in temperatures much over 35 degrees C. The weather here is often as high as 40 degrees in the shade, and things will get into direct sunlight.

I have seen other glues mentioned, what is thier heat performance like?

Evo-Stick serious glue is good for -30 deg C to + 130 deg C. It costs £5.00 a tube (33g) here in the UK.

tt

How about polyurethane glue  (Gorilla Glue, etc)- perfectly waterproof - certainly good for the same temperatures as the base plastics.

Points to note (apologies if your grandmother can already suck eggs):

Poisonous when  uncured (like all PUs)
Exapands as it cures if allowed to do so - so all joints need to be clamped
Not proof against UV (in the long term) it needs to be covered or painted

hope this helps
