1:96 Uboat
« on: May 18, 2008, 01:44:18 pm »

Dear All,

Does such a beast exist? I know this scale makes the vessel small, but 1:96 is 'my' scale. It was just an idea that's all, but if a simple kit exists it would be handy to have a look at least. Not bothered about diving, so only simple 'drive train'.

It would be helpful if you are a little more specific. What era are you interested in, WWI, WWII or post war. I assume you are looking for a German boat.

There are a lot of models avaialble in 1/96th scale, mostly post war, as WWI and WWII boats start to get very small at 1/8" to the foot.

Hmmm, I can't think of any 1/96th scale WWII German boats. There is a 1/96th scale Type 212 out there, but that's a modern boat (nice though).

The Scale Shipyard sell a 1/96th Gato class, which is right era, wrong navy.

You might get more help if you post over at Subpirates.com and also the sub committee boards

As i said, at 196th scale the average Type VII or Type IX comes out very small indeed, most models tend to be 1/72nd or larger, especially if they're aimed towards R/C conversion.

Dear Andy,

Thankyou for your thorough reply, I will do as you suggest. No hurry, just looking: thought that since 1:96 was small that they would be a difficult thing to find.
