i have a Trafalgar class sub,its my first time,i am i suppose a sub virgin!!anyway,do these lovely crafts need some kind of external aerial?sorry for my ignorance,also the trafs i have seen on the internet are mainly black,but i have seen one in silver/alloy colour that looks good,and obviously easier to see in the water,thanks,dazz

  Most T class boats ( and I would imagine Astute ) will soon be painted blue after trials that have been carried out on Trenchant and Torbay

AFAIK only HMS Torbay was given the all light blue recently. Its by no means certain that any onther subs will be painted that colour, and I expect Torbay will be back to black at the end of the trial. the only other T boat I know that was painted blue was HMS Trenchant in 1999 with the disruptive scheme. Here mine in 1/96 painted that way

thanks,nice sub! does a sub need an external aerial,or is it ok inside the electrics tube?

Hi There Dazz,
      Just putting the final touches to my Traf, I would say leave the aerial inside the boat, otherwise you could end up with water inside the wtc, which  could make for a whole lot of trouble. Unless you can find a secure way to seal it of course. As for colour ive gone for the matt black look, Then maybe later i'll try some weathering.

I keep everything inside the waterproof area in all my subs, no problems with reception (unless you have a lead sub or something). Don't coil it up though, run it straight as long as it will go before doubling back.

Here are a couple of pics of my sheerline trafalgar before I sold it.
The paint job did attract a few remarks as it made the sub more noticable than the standard black.
