Daily Telegraph Titanic by Fine Art Models Michigan
« on: May 27, 2008, 07:53:36 am »

Model boat article and pictures in this morning's Telegraph.
Fine Art Models of Michigan have knocked up an 18ft long 1:48 model from the original plans. Aparently this is the first time Harland & Wolff have released Titanic plans to a builder.

This article is probably on the Telegraph website but I've no time to link as I'm at the office.

Did I mis-read it?
Cost for a fibreglass model............albeit a good one.....virtually the same as the REAL vessel?

Who has lost the plot here?
Is the Tax payer funding this as a follow up to the 'Millenium Dome' and Olympics projects?

One of the RCGroups members saw the model up close last December during their open house:

Rex,

Seven years work for, presumably, a team of professional modelmakers wouldn't come cheap. £1.3 million works out at roughly £92 an hour ( £1,300,000 / 40(hours a week) x 50 (weeks a year) x 7 (years)) which, split between a team of craftsmen, is not that much.

And it looks like some model - any more pictures, anyone?

I've got some pictures from Fine Art Model's visit to Ally Pally model engineering pictures a couple of years back.
I'll delve the depths of my hard drive and post them up later.

Martin.
