what would you buy?
« on: June 05, 2008, 04:29:34 pm »

Saturday, lotto night, Your 6 numbers have come up clickety click, and you have won the jackpot, what would you spend it on.

here's what I'd spend my lotto win on..
1/ a sports car, probably a small one, dont need to be too flashy.
2/ big rig + step frame trailer, (converted to a BIG ASS caravan)
3/ ferry ticket to Europe

i'd then go on a road trip!

What would I buy? Hmm...a Plymouth Road Runner built to full drag race specs for me, a Fiat 500 for the girlfriend, and then pay someone [that guy in the US of A] to build my Gato for me.

That'd do for me...

Cheers,

Rich

[oh, and what's left I'd donate to the Dover Ambulance and the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford who between them twice saved my life]

I would build a golf course. with a few more than 18 holes.
People would pay me to hit a ball around yard with a stick.
On one set of holes, I would have a huge pond built.
Every month, I would close those greens, and host a model boat event from
the back side of the club house. The rest of the month, people would
pay me to hit a ball around the yard with a little stick.

Funny you should say that.....

Quite often I sit with my Father-in-Law who has terminal cancer. One of his continuing joys is watching recordings of the golf classics - I'm watching them with him thinking' "Damn, I'd love to sail that water feature"... :)

May your numbers come up soon Umi so I can fulfil that dream.

What do I want?

That money can buy? Nothing really, I've got somewhere to live, a loving wife, a nice car, my cats and more 'toys' than I can play with all at once.

The things I want money can't buy...

Good health, pain relief for my Father-in-Law, a cure for him would be nice too.

A fine day at the lake, stand on a mountain top and look out across the world.

Sail a boat you built yourself - "I made that!"

There's loads more!

In my time working on the Post the most miserable people I ever met where those with pots of money.

A few thoughts to ponder....

Robert

I will second that. Money is not everything and the things it buys, sure for a while, gives you a bit of an easier life but what is that without health and the love of someone you hold dear. All you need is a home with loved ones and food on the table.

But then if you did win big on lotto the first thing is not to spend it. The story of a couple here in Australia who in the space of 3 years won Lotto twice and although both times the prize was $1mill after just five years they were broke and on the dole. If it was me I would put a substantial amount in the bank or some high interest, but safe, institution and live of the interest. With what was left over I would also put that into a high interest account and the interest would go to charity. Its not that I would not like to have a lot of money  but I have seen money turn the best of friends into the most bitter enemies, even break up families and cause health problems through the stress of money.

Regards David

PS The biggest Powerball jackpot in Australia just went off last night it was $58mil and only one winner , lets hope it does not change his or her life for the worse.

I'd need to retire from working - that way I could do everything on my list -  'things to do before I die' and build all the models I've saved plans for over the years.

I would buy a stair lift so I wouldn't have to wonder if I was gioing to make it up the stairs every night and back down in the morning.
I would also buy an electric wheelchair so that my wife didn't have to push me everywhere.
Also I would pay for a cleaner so my wife didn't have to clean after doing a full days work to pay for my hobby etc.
All these things we cannot get a grant for because grants are means tested and they dont take into account your mortgage which they class as expendable income.
Also my wife has a job and is not on benefits, another reason for being refused a grant.
What a system.   >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(

Richard:

My next door neighbours had this problem - pretty much exactly the same position - Mrs Steve has spent the last couple of months shouting at people and finding various loopholes and now everything that's in your list my next door neighbour has got + other stuff - even got his back garden modified so he could get out do gardening in raised beds.

If you PM me your e-mail address I will will get Mrs Steve to get all the info she has aquired over to you with some notes on good people to speak to etc etc.
