Not really, I was passing her on a big ferry on the way to France at the time!
But I'll email you the originals of what I have if that would be of any help.

HMS Ark Royal arriving at Liverpool yesterday.

This just a sample. I shall be visiting the ship tomorrow (Sunday) so if anybody requires detail shots i will do a set which will be available on DVD/CD at reasonable cost.

I notice that Liverpool didn't rate a "lining the side" welcome. Tut tut, Liverpoll being the European centre of some sort of culture this year. On second thoughts, maybe the RN got it right this time.

I don't know what that comment is supposed to mean and regard it as being a rather cheap remark. However, I cannot, ever, recall a time when "lining the side" has taken place when a warship arrived or departed.

Well, they were lining the side when they hit my yacht in 1995 but maybe I merited special consideration.  ::)

Russ, be aware that there are many differences between all three of the Invincible Class through-deck carriers. Try an approach to the RN public relations dept or the photo-section of the the ship herself.  BTW what ever happened to the "steam gives way to sail" rule or did that go out with tarred pigtails. :o

Ignore him, he's a bit of a loose canon.

Anyway, I was listening to The Bay radio station in the north west today. For those who dont know this station broadcasts to Morecambe Bay area including Barrow. Didnt catch all of what was reported but they said HMS Exeter & Onyx(?) were open to the public Saturday (yep, I know its too late!) and Sunday.

Not sure where this is but perhaps Barrow? Or maybe Liverpool if the Ark is in town!

EDIT. Just found this on Exeter's Navy page. Its Barrow in Furness!

When was the last time the river Tyne "lining the side". Why make cheap comments like this. If you don't have anything good to say, keep the fingers still.

Just my thoughts

OK guys, you have all made your point about the inappropriate Liverpool comment.

Let's all move on before a war breaks out. Additional comments on that aspect of this thread will be moderated.

slight side-track, but, still on about Lining the Decks  :) ..... takes me back to when I was a wee boy working at Rosyth Dock yards - picture the scene -

At sundown the British Navy used to lower to White Ensign flag on the aft deck.   All the officers and crew were mustered at the ceremony.

Now picture the day... it is literally blowing a gale, in December .... round about 3.30 p.m. Halestone, sleet etc., you name it, its lashing down.   There are these poor souls on the aft deck of the ship attending the ceremony...when also, a German warship comes in - and her decks are lined with their crew - but, the German crew all had short-sleeved shirts on, taking the salute/whatever.  The crew of each vessel saluted one another; whilst we onlookers, wrapped up in our survival suits and whatnot stood and watched in disbelief.

That is ceremony stretched to the limits I think.    By the way, the vessel I was working on was HMS BLACKWATER.
