What a boat sits on?
« on: June 12, 2008, 07:18:13 pm »

Hi - I'm having a real Senior Moment! ???
I want to build a cradle to rest my boat on, trouble is I can't remember what it's called or who posted an ideal thread I read once!
(there not called cradle's are they?)
Can any on shed any light please, it's the curves that I have concerns about and the thread I saw showed how to make a jig.

thanks
Gary :)

Don't worry Gary ,as the wife say's "it's your age" .
I call it a stand ,cos thats what you do "stand your model on it " and one way to get the hull form right is to use glazers lead and form it around the hull where you want to have the supports ,then yransfer it onto your timber and cut it out .Simple O0

Another way to gauge the profile is to use a profile gauge!!! One of those comb-like thingies, with sliding teeth.

Also very useful for checking symmetry when sanding a hull. I bought a couple of cheap ones - a pound each - at our local "bargain basement".
