Revel Corvette as Minesweeper (Help)
« on: September 01, 2008, 02:14:50 pm »

I am at the moment kit-bashing the Revel 1:72 Corvette kit into HMCS AGASSIZ in her short fcstl. type complete with minesweeping gear. My question concerns the colour scheme of the associated sweep gear eg. Minesweep Floats, Otters, Dan Bouys etc. Also was it normal to paint the wooden deck areas such as Compass House Roof, Compass Platform, Dinghy platforms and Carley float stowages, or would these be varnished to show the wood effect. I see in many Corvette model pics that the colour schemes for these areas are often varied and I cannot glean any valid info from the sources that I have. Anyone help on this.

I take it you have a copy of the Anatomy of the Ship- HMCS Agassiz?

Also try asking the question here:

Many thanks folks, yes I have the 'Anatomy - Agassiz' but that doesn't show colour schemes so have posted this question on the yuku forum. Will let you know the results, if any.

All wooden decks I have seen in the Andrew where and are bare wood which is scrubbed with water on a regualr basis. I did read in an authorative book on the subject all major warships in the last war painted thier decks dark grey, the exception were small escorts etc which kept thier decks bare wood (working decks are never varnished).
I hope I have not confused you, also wood decks get stained quickly from oil leaks and rust, plus the rubber of matelotes wellie soles.

These  ships only carried wood decking on the bow, bridge and around the rear depth charge thrower. The rest of the decking was painted grey.

Not strickley true DickyD, the decks had semtex on them, they were walkways, it could be darkish brown, on my Bryony it was green.
