FLEET CONTROL RX BATTERY PACK
« on: June 23, 2008, 12:07:33 pm »

 mayhemmers,

can anyone shed some light on the 3 rd lead on a fleet control RX battery pack,

the cells on mine are now a few years old !!!! and in need of renewal, never had a problem in the 14 or so years i have had them... so never really thought about it...... but this weekend i took the case apart for the RX pack and they have a lead coming out for charging, all simple, one positive, one negative.....

then there is the second  lead that goes to the switch harness then onto the receiver,  its fitted with the blue dupont ' fleet style' plug with 3  leads.... the positive goes to the positive terminal of the pack, the black negative lead goes to the negative terminal,- simple and straightforward....  but then there is a  white lead is also soldered onto the positive terminal......?

i  initially thought there may be some kind of thermal device in the pack for charging monitoring, but there does not appear to be one..... any ideas what the white lead is for  ?

i want to replace the 4 AA cells which are currently only 600mah capacity with new bigger capaicity AA cells, just wondered if there is any need for the white lead,  or does it serve a purpose in the receiver itself ?

 cheers.....

Guy

I have just checked my two old Fleet RX batteries and both of them have the white lead connected to V+. I checked the RX on the speciifc battery input and the V+ and signal line are not connected as you would expect. Perhaps the connection of the white lead was in case someone filed of the lugs, this would then allow you to put the plug in either way round providing it went into the specific battery input on the RX.

I also have a drop down charger connector, reduces charge output to 30ma from 50 or 80ma, in this the white lead is left disconnected.(V+ and ground both have dropper resistors.)

I do not think that you need to connect this for new packs, but would be interested to hear any other possible answers?

Best wishes

If in doubt, do what the other guy did i.e. replicate the connections to the old pack on the new ones.

Guy,

I don't think you need the white lead. I have used a standard 4.8v pack with my Fleet Rx (having modified the plug) and it works! If you use a standard pack and charge it with a regular NiMh charger, then the white lead is redundant.
